I know about the hours, days and months it takes to write a book. Then there is the submission process. That can takes months or even years. One of the virtues of a successful author is perseverance.

It would very easy to give up when you don’t hear from a publisher for many months. It can be frustrating, when that agent you sent a proposal to doesn’t answer you emails.

I wet the self-publishing route just because of those reasons. I was able to be in control of what is on the cover. I had a great deal of input of what went on the back cover, and my share of the royalties was much higher.

I went through the back door. I feel I have been successful since the experts say and first time author, especially a self-published author should feel lucky if they sell 100 books in the life time of their promotions. I have sold nearly 400 in the first two years, and feel like I have many more ideas on how to sell many more.

Because of my sales, an agent is interested in taking me on as a client. I am in the process of writing her a proposal. So I didn’t go the nature route. I did my self-publishing first and then sought out agents and traditional publishers later.

It is up to you which way you want to go.

How about in your own life? Do you give up easily if something you want to happen doesn’t happen right away? Are you confused as to what way to go in your writing, or possibly in your own life?

Prayer is the way to go. I prayed for guidance many times through-out my writing career. I prayer just before I sent articles to magazines, in the early years of my writing. I prayed for help in deciding if I should self-publish or not. I feel the path I have taken was chosen by God, and it has lead me to a successful writing career.

Don’t “wing it,” through life. Pray constantly about everything. Ask God to help you choose the right path. You will find as you look back on your decision after prayer, that you took the right paths, and you are serving God in the best way you can.

Remember:

You are not alone.

You are not forsaken.

You are not unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!
