How do I Handle Criticism?

I want to say a huge thank you to all of you who have been subscribing to this site. Not long ago there were 884 subscribers. Today there are 1,330! That is almost 500 new subscribers. We are growing fast.

Why is this happening?  I try to share news about my book here, but I also share words of encouragement, and hope. It is the last part that is drawing in so many people. This is because many people in this hotel called earth, are suffering from anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, and the many other usual suspects.

I am excited so many of you are joining me here. I want to keep the tremendous effort going. You can keep it going by subscribing today if you haven’t already. Just click on the icon right after the title on this page to do that.

A quick update on my writing. My first book has received a national award from the Reader’s Favorite  Awards. It is an honor to be so fortunate to achieve this award.

My second book, Signs of Hope: For the Weak Days, is about half way through. My co-author Dennis Booth and I from New South Wales, Australia, are working hard to try to get this out for fall of this year.

I have even started a new book with a working title of, Signs of Hope: For the Military. I really have a feel for this one. I am a veteran, and so is one of my sons, who is a career soldier. I am writing this book because I am heart broken about the many suicides that occur in the military. It is much higher in percentage than the private sector. I want to reach out to the military, and show them hope.

How Can I Face Criticism?

We make judgments all the time. People make judgments about you and me all the time.

I would guess all of you have faced criticism sometime in your life. I certainly have. It isn’t pleasant to go through. When someone criticizes you it causes you to have self-doubt, anxiety, and even depression.

I have some thoughts on criticism:

  • Criticism always seems to come when you least need it.
  • Criticism always comes when we least deserve it.
  • Criticism always comes from people who are least qualified to give it.
  • Criticism frequently comes in a form that is least helpful to us. (Gossip)

We need to know that:

  • With every achievement there is a price.
  • With every goal there is an opponent.
  • Some people put others down to make themselves look better.

Don’t let those negative people away you. Dr Suess was turned down 28 times before he got his first book published, and yet his books are national best sellers every year now.

Reach for that goal you have had forever and achieve it. Keep trudging down the narrow path to success. There are many rewards waiting there for you.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all….never, ever, give up!

Never Feel you Can’t Accomplish Something

I am finding more time to write on this site lately. It could be because God is telling me I need to spend ore time with you here.

This Site will have two functions:

  • Share with you what the latest news is on my writing, and new books that are coming out.
  • Write words of hope at the end of each of my post that you can have to help you through those cloudy and stormy days.

I am very excited to share that my book, Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World,” has received a national award. The award is from The Reader’s Favorite Awards. I also received a 5 star review from them. (Makes a nice sticker on my book!)

I also entered a competition called MARsocial Author of the Year Award. There were 168 entrants. I didn’t think I would do well, because the majority of the entries were fiction, and my book is non-fiction. This competition is like American Idol except it is for authors.

I was very amazed when they announced the top 80 and I was one of them. I thought the was very nice of them to let me hang around for the second round of cuts. Well, I was even more amazed when I found out I had made it to the top 40. I felt I had accomplished about as much as I could. Wrong! I had another announcement that I had made it to the top 20!  I actually began to believe in my work and the possibilities.

Just last week the competition ended and a miracle occurred. I was named runner-up! Out of 168 entrants I was runner-up! Remember, I am a non-fiction writer and I passed up dozens of fiction authors.

The winner is now the executive producer of a new movie in the making called, “Disturbed.” She deserved it when I read her book.

Why am I “bragging,” and telling you all of this? There was a time when I didn’t even think I was worth a cent. I thought I wanted to check out of this hotel called earth. I was full of self-pity and doubt.

God changed that for me by taking me by the hand and pulling me out of the muck and mire I had allowed myself to get into. I found out I didn’t need to have self-pity. Besides, people don’t like coming to your pity parties. It gets very old real quickly.

Always keep this in mind:

  • God is never far away. If he seems that way, guess who moved.
  • God loves you very much. You are His child.
  • If you let God guide you, the skies the limit.
  • Take on the dream you felt could never be accomplished and do it today!!

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken,

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

Got some not so good news yesterday at my cardiologist. He informed me that the bottom part of my heart is not getting signals from the top part. That means the “Central Transfer” spot in my heart is not working anymore.

He has suggested a”Flutter Ablasion.” He thinks if he can stop the severe A-Fib I have that the sections will start working again.  I do the ablasion on May 1st.

I am not mew to these types of afflictions. I have had six major surgeries, and have joked that I was to be careful when I drink water because of the 18+ incisions I have on my body.

How can I have a positive feeling about all of this?

There was a time when I didn’t have positive feelings. I was down and out, and even considering checking out of this hotel called earth. It was at that point, which was at the end of my rope, I realized that the rope I was clinging to was really the hem of God’s robe. He stopped me from going all the way, and turned me around to write my book, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World.”

So, when the darkness comes, I know there is a light above me at all times. I know that God is there protecting me. He has taken my hand and has been guiding me for many years now.

Do you have a fear about something? Do you wonder if God is there?

Be assured that if you feel God is far away that you can know it was you that moved. He will never forsake you.

I will update you on my ablasion procedure after it is done on May 1st. Prayer would be fantastic. God does listen.
