Hundreds of Russian commandos are being used as frontline soldiers, with poor results. _________________________________________________________________ You never know who your friends really are sometimes. When I first got to South Korea, and sent to Camp Red Cloud, I was greeted by two soldiers who wanted to welcome me. The were very friendly and we hit it off quickly. A few days later, they invited me to go with them to the camp bar. The background on this is that I was only 18 years old and had never drank even a beer before. We got to the bar and one of my”friends” said he was buying the first round. I saw the sig that said everything was ten cents, EVERYTHING! It was the end of the month and a whole new shipment of booze was coming in. My friend brought the drink to the table and made a toast. “To Friends,” he said. I took my first drink of alcohol. I nearly exploded. It was a tall grey looking drink that had a severely strong taste to it. I asked my friends what name of the drink, and they said a Zombie. Well, this 18 year rookie had no idea what that meant. I was challenged to finish the drink. At that point things were getting blurry. They brought more to the table!! At that time I was feeling no pain. I put down the send one. I didn’t remember the rest of the night, and woke up the next morning dry heaving my guts out lying next to the wheel of the 2 1/2 ton truck. There had to be many people who saw me laying and just thought. “Oh there is another newsikie.” (New guy) Lesson learned. _______________________________________________________________ Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life, is almost finished.
