It has been a long haul for me. Since March I have been in lock down. I have underlying problems with my health, and I would be dead meat if I was to catch the virus. I am way past the staring at the walls stage. I am watching a couple movies on TV everyday. Most aren’t very good, but I am doing something. I am able to get out and walk, so the one blessing is that I have lost a lot of weight. I feel better because of that.

I am very high on the American Legion. They truly care for veterans. Here are some examples:

  1. Buddy Checks Help Veterans

Post 18 in Weehawken, N. J., has a buddy plan that really reaches out to other veterans. They especially check on older veterans. They connected with a recently widowed WWII veteran and helped him with outdoor chores he is no longer able to do on his own.

Blood Drive

  1. Post 199 of Harrison, Ohio had a blood drive that attracted more than 60 donors to help with the shortage caused by the Pandemic. The post also provided a free drive through hamburger lunch that fed 200.

60,000 Dollars raised

  1. At least $60,000 dollars was raised by the Department of Florida American Legion Riders in a virtual Unity Ride for the project, Vetrelief suicide Prevention Initiative.

The National Guard has stepped up to the plate and hit a homerun recently.

  1. They have been testing for the virus. 2.4 million people have been tested or screened.
  2. They have been on 7,000 missions supporting testing and screening.
  3. They have made 149 million meals packaged or delivered to those in need.
  4. The have delivered 88 thousand tons of food.
  5. They have driven 1.6 million miles delivering food and essential supplies.
  6. They have made 18 million masks.

Doug Bolton, the founder of the blog, Signs of Hope, which is at www.dailysignsofhope.com, has written a new book, “Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.” It reaches out the many military and veterans who may be battling anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, rejections, and the many other usual suspects. There are 22 military connected suicides every day. That is almost one every hour. Doug wants to help stop those statistics.

They will Fight

If Russia moves against NATO  in the Baltic states or Poland, NATO will stand and fight, a key NATO commander said. This evokes thoughts of a cold war.

The “cold war” has become a problem in that there may be a major conflict causing increasing tensions.

They will stand united against any aggressor.

The Deregulation President

The Federal Register, which contains all Federal rules, notices and regulations, topped 97,330 pages under President Obama. Under President Trump it has been shaved down to 45,678 pages.

The number of new rules for Trump was 65, way below the average of 213 rules from the last six presidents.

The cost for regulation soared from $68 billion under Bush, to $122 billion under Obama.

The Army Relaxes Rules on Recruits and Marijuana

In an effort to boost its ranks and hot new targets for enlistees, the Army is relaxing its rules on granting waivers for marijuana use.

The catch is that the new recruits have to pledge to never use marijuana again. (Really?)

IN 2017 the Army granted 506 waivers-up from 191 in 2016.

____________________________________________________________-

Could be a serious problems with a couple of the stories above. Allowing recruits to agree to not smoke marijuana again is pushing it. In the Vietnam days it was common for many of the soldiers to smoke.

Now they will be punished if they start again? Good luck with that.

The fact that NATO is willing to back us 100% is reassuring, but pray they never need to.

It has been a whole month since I last posted. No need to worry, I am feeling fine. The reason is that I have been busier than a cat on a hot tin roof. Many new things are happening in my life.

This site, (for now) has become a site that reaches out to veterans all over the world. It doesn’t have to be just American soldiers. This is for all of you who sacrificed your time to serve your country.

So, let me tell you what is happening right now. I was honored to be asked to be a board member for a new nonprofit called, Victory for Veterans Foundation. (http://www.victoryforveterans.org) This Organization’s mission is to reach out to those veterans who may be suffering from PTSD, TBI, MST, wounds of war, being homeless, depressed, and the many other usual suspects.

I will be sharing thoughts on making you day seem better, and give insights on how to get help if you need it. So, let me show you what a post will look like from me.

Have you had nightmares of war? Do you struggle with addictions? Were you injured so badly you still are battling the pain?

You have come to the right place. Let me tell you about myself, and let you see I have been there and done that, and know your feeling.

I was in the military from 1959-1962. (Yes they had an army then.)

I was deployed to Korea, and spent thirteen months there. I faced severe loneliness, depression, and anxiety. I even felt the loss of a buddy when three of us signed together on the buddy system, but only two came back.

I came back to the U.S.A. and was stationed at FT. Bragg, NC. It was pretty smooth there until my last three months. I was in a jeep accident in February of 1962. I was thrown from a jeep and landed back first on a boulder. My whole back was one solid bruise.

I also had a frightening experience when they loaded my whole battalion on to planes and told we were being sent to the Bay of Pigs. We were in full gear ready for combat when we landed. By the grace of God, the mission was aborted, and we went back to our homes.

I have faced fear, I have even faced death, because in 2001, I had lost control of my life. I couldn’t maintain sanity any longer. I had driven to a local high school parking lot, and was thinking of checking out of this hotel called earth. God stopped me there, and I am here able to write to you.

I could give more details of each of the things I spoke of above and I will in later posts. Now I want you to subscribe so you can get the post delivered right to your inbox, and you will not miss one.
