Military news…

The German military has to deal with a very German problem: What to do with 65,000 cans of beer at its base in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan? In this amazing story about our NATO ally, about the enormous quantity of alcohol that Germany wants to withdraw from the country before the scheduled departure date for coalition troops on September 11. There would be much less around if only American troops could help um, get rid of the booze.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has a baller home worth nearly $3 million

Did you know that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has a baller home worth nearly $3 million? The military takes us on a grand tour of the retired Army general’s 7-bedroom 7-bathroom, 5-car garage home, with heated floors in the master bath.

Yes, the Marines have to learn the correct way to open and close doors. That is, if you are a Marine sentry guarding the White House, where opening doors is one of many duties they must execute with robot-like precision. In this story, James Clark takes us behind the scenes of what it’s like to prepare for the most public parade ground on the planet, where even opening a door has to be done with style.

I remember when I was a recruit. That was 65 years ago. I was only 18 and super naive.

The military made me into a man. I learned discipline. I learned honor and country. I learned that there are brothers to protect as they protect me.

I learned some things the hard way.

I had never left my home state of oregon. When I was deployed to South Korea, I was pretty much in shock.

Total different culture. Totally different the way the people looked.

One thing I learned quickly is to question people before you move forward. I had one incident that had me grow up overnight.

I came into Camp Red Cloud in South Korea, and was lost, of course. They directed me to my quinsite hut, and I started to unpack.

About half way through two guys came in looking like players for the 49er’s.

I was guessing this was a hazing. I was very wrong. These two guys came up and shock my hand to welcome me to Camp Red Cloud. They were very friendly and polite.

The next night, they invited me to go with them to the Camp bar. I thought it was a good idea to say yes, so I could be a part of the group.

We got to the bar, and they bought me a couple of beers. Then oneof them went up to the bar and ordered three drinks. He brought them to our table and said, “Drink up!”

I had no idea what kind of drink it was. I was gray and ugly.

I had a sip, and my head exploded. The other guys laughed, and challenged me to keep drinking with them. Again, wanting to be accepted I took a couple more sips.

After the fourth gulp, I went into a blackout. I never remembered the rest of the evening.

I woke up the next morning lying next to the tire of a deuce and a half truck, doing the dry heaves.

Welcome to camp!!

Some fake news reports claim that the military is liking president Biden. NOT A CHANCE!!!

He has turned his back on the military. He is even using military money to pay for some of his new laws. Don’t be fooled by the media!

Some of the most influential people I have ever met were in the military.

They weren’t even all officers. Many NCO’s taught me so much that I still use today. The military is full of intelligent and upright people.

News of the day

Thank Haley Britzky for making the Army do the right thing, like she did yesterday by writing an article about a brigade commander’s decision to not seek prosecution for Staff Sgt. Randall S. Hughes, an NCO who pled guilty to raping the wife of one of his soldiers in 2017. Shortly after the article was published, the Army said it plans on reviewing the brigade commander’s decision. That’s huge.

Dependent living assistance

The Independent Living program help Veterans and service members who are unable to work due to a service-connected disability, as well as those who need help living as independently as possible. The Independent Living track can also provide job assistance with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.

It’s wrastlin’ time for Staff Sgt. John Stefanowicz, the first Marine in 30 years to wrestle in the Olympics, writes Task & Purpose editor-in-chief Paul Szoldra. An imagery analysis specialist at Camp Lejeune, the 29-year-old Stefanowicz is now the best 181-pound Greco-Roman wrestler in the country, and he’s feeling ready to bring home a gold medal at the Tokyo games this summer.

Two sailors were shot at Fort Detrick, Maryland on Tuesday, allegedly by a 38-year-old Navy hospital corpsman identified as Petty Officer 3rd Class Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, Pentagon reporter Jeff Schogol reports. Woldesenbet was shot and killed by base police, while one of the sailors he allegedly shot remained in critical condition in a Baltimore hospital as of late Tuesday night. The other is expected to be released today. Both Woldesenbet and the two victims were assigned to Fort Detrick, despite it being an Army installation.

One thing I wish I could do, a do over, would be that when I got out of the military, I never joined the reserve. Being in the National Guard is an honor I should have had. I am so proud of what they do in my state.

Some up to date news for you.

President Biden has decided to pull the troops out of Afghanistan on September 11th, 2021. That would be the 20th anniversary of the Twin Towers attack.

Now the people are in an uproar. They wanted the troops brought home, but now they fear the Taliban will take over the country quickly.

HELLO!

I am in a spot in my life where I am not sure if we should send troops to every country that is having problems.

Biden is in a lose, lose situation, and I feel for him on this situation.

The Air Force just let in a white supremacist that a Google search could have caught, I wrote in an article on Tuesday. Airman 1st Class Shawn Michael McCaffrey has a long history with white supremacist groups, and he even ran a podcast where he and his racist, homophobic pals pilloried Jews, people of color, Muslims and many other groups, including the military. The Air Force is now investigating the case.

OOOOPS!!!

“I want to get back to doing normal things” was the main reason Army Staff Sgt. Anthony Johnson flipped from COVID-19 vaccine skeptic to vaccine recipient, writes Army reporter Haley Britzky. Like many other soldiers, seeing his commander take the shot helped Johnson change his mind. Learning more statistics about the vaccine, wanting to protect their loved ones and believing the Army wouldn’t provide a harmful vaccine to its troops also helped, Haley found out after chatting with soldiers.

The cop who pointed a firearm at an unarmed, uniformed Army officer named 2nd Lt. Caron Nazario at a traffic stop in December has been fired from the Windsor, Va. police department, Haley Britzky reports. Officer Joe Gutierrez was out of line with Windsor PD policy, the town said in a press release. Meanwhile, the Army’s top enlisted soldier praised Nazario for his calm response to the encounter.
