Military news…

About 70% of soldiers have received the COVID-19 vaccine, but some of the ones who haven’t may have baseless concerns about it. Three Army doctors took to a podcast this week to debunk some of the common myths about the vaccine, like whether it causes infertility, erectile dysfunction, or miscarriages. There is no evidence that the vaccine causes any of those issues.

The first 2,500 Afghans evacuated were the easiest to get out. What about the rest? There are still an estimated 70,000 interpreters and their families at risk of being killed by the Taliban, and the 2,500 coming to Virginia are “not nearly enough,” according to one expert.

An Air Force commander at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma took serious heat from airmen on social media this weekend for berating his crew when they decided not to fly a training mission in dangerous conditions. A recording of the commander’s speech went viral on Reddit and Facebook, where many airmen identified with “the push for a mission by those who aren’t putting their lives at risk,” as one airman said.

No, Russia’s new fighter jet can’t fly at twice the speed of light, despite Fox News reporting to the contrary. While a Fox anchor likely made a mistake in saying that the upcoming Sukhoi Checkmate can fly faster than light and thereby break the rules of physics, who knows? Maybe the Russians have something up their sleeves.

I will share another excerpt with you from my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.

Iriwaba Means Come Here in Korea

After I was in Korea for a while, I had time to go for walks in the village of Uigongbo, Korea. At the time it was a broken down village that didn’t seem to find any industry to support it. Today it is a thriving town.

I soon found out that the industry was prostitution. There were women of all ages waving at me and yelling Iriwaba.

Iriwaba means come here in Korean. These women were all trying to to entice you to come over to their little parlor and have sex with them for a fee. I was such a naive young man I didn’t respond for the first few trips there.

One night the guys decided I needed to get drunk and party. I ended up waking up and saw an elderly lady on top of me buck naked, and I was too. She was having sex with me, and I didn’t know it. As my eyes cleared, I saw she was eating an apple like I was one o the people she would please while she was on a break!

I was told she was a “Mommason,” A mommason is the boss of the prostitutes, and I was delegated to an old pro who thought she cut eat an apple while she was performing her act for me.

I asked her the fee. She told one of the guys paid it and the going rate was a cartoon of cigarettes. She said one cartoon of cigarettes, which was worth $2.99, would get her family enough food for a week. The cartons were a hot commodity in the “Black Market.”

I thought I would try to go out and “test,” the market one night. A mommason beckoned to to me to come into her shack. I thought she was the one providing the services, but she walked me into her bedroom, and lying on the bed naked was a little girl that couldn’t have been more then twelve years old. She looked very frightened and wouldn’t even look at me.

I was very angry and wanted to punch the mommason in the face. I left quickly.

Later learned that having so much sex in that village can be deadly. One of the soldiers, who bragged about being with a woman every night, caught some serious infection in his gentiles and eventually had to have them cut off to save his life.

That vision cured me of any other trips to the village for pleasure.

The experiences I had in Korea changed my life. Some of the experiences I am not proud of, but I learned so much in the thirteen months I was there.

With This particular lesson I learned is that something may look enticing, and could give you pleasure, but it also could be something that is very serious and could lead to a “dead end.”

Military news…

The Pentagon is looking for a few good Nazi-hunters. Just kidding, they’re looking for just one senior executive to think up ways to prevent and respond to “supremacist, extremist, and criminal gang activity” in the U.S. military. The job opening comes amidst a recent surge of alarm bells over the rise of extremism within the ranks, including one neo-Nazi soldier who planned to attack his fellow troops.

Finding your tribe outside of the military
Erik Bartell left the military with no idea what he was going to do next. After serving for six years as an Army infantry officer, an injury forced him to make a decision. Erik had always wanted to lead, but with this injury, he would not be able to lead Soldiers directly in the field. He made the difficult decision to leave the Army and soon found inspiration from an unlikely source, fitness.

Founded in New York City in 2012, The Headstrong Project was created to help military veterans and their families overcome PTSD and other military-related traumas. The founders of Headstrong saw a deep need for mental health services for post-9/11 veterans. They also saw a large gap between the care that was available and veterans’ access to it.

Airmen may soon be able to choose their own adventure when it comes to physical fitness tests, even if it involves walking. That’s what the Air Force announced on Monday. When Lt. Gen. Brian Kelly said the service would experiment with giving airmen options for how they want to perform their test. You other military branches may laugh, but some airmen say that walking for a fitness test is actually a lot harder than it sounds.

“Anything can happen in this sport,” says Spc. Alejandro Sancho, one of 12 Army athletes and three coaches going to the Olympics this summer. While Sancho will compete in Greco-Roman wrestling, other Army athletes will compete in boxing, shooting, swimming and more. The Olympics begin on July 23, so now’s the time to start getting hyped.

This last story reminds me of a very sad response from one of the Olympic performers. She decided to let people know she was anti American, by turning her back from the American flag and holding a women activist t-shirt up.

This caused lots of controversy of course, but the final straw of all this was that our own president says he is Ok with her doing that.

Biden admin ‘respects’ Olympic athlete’s ‘right’ to insult America

Those headlines didn’t go well with me. In my opinion and many others she should be dropped from the Olympic team since she hates America so much. The Olympics is all about patriotism towards your home country.

Just rename the Confederate bases already

It’s well within the Pentagon’s power to re-name bases, ships, buildings and other assets dedicated to the former Confederate States of America, but nobody seems in a hurry to get it done. In fact, Congress has put an independent naming commission in charge of the process, which is usually Capitol Hill-ese for “let’s take our sweet-ass time.”

“The farther I get from those days, the heavier my guilt,” writes Marine veteran Russell Hellyer in this story, which originally appeared in The War Horse, about his deployment to Afghanistan. Russell describes how his view of the Afghan people changed over the years. As a bitter grunt in a war nobody seemed to understand, he had little empathy for them. But now, years later, he writes sharply that “we were never committed to anything but sticking around, and the results for the people of Afghanistan show it.”

I just got home from an appointment with my hearing aid doctor. I asked her if she would write a letter to the VA for my hearing loss. She said I needed to go through the proper channels before she would do that. I have already done that, but I will try again.

I have been battling the VA for years on my hearing loss that happen while I was in Korea.

I will NOT give up and neither should of any of you who have physical problems that you got while in the military.

Several posts back I talked about being greeted by two guys on my first day at Camp Red Cloud, South Korea. Those guys became my best buddies. One reason was that hey were very muscular and big. I needed my body guards. 🙂

A week later they invited me to go with them to the Camp bar. I glady went because I liked them so much. When we got there we had a couple of beers, and then one of them went to the bartender and ordered another kind a drink. He brought three of them to the table.

They were tall glasses and were full of gray and other colors. The one who bought the drinks said we should go for it and have a sip. I took that sip and my head almost exploded. I choughed. The guys laughed.

The the one who bought the drinks said let’s have a drinking contest. I was an 18 year old kid who was very naive. I went for it. I took another big gulp and I was spinning after only two drinks.

We continued and had the third gulp. That is the last thing I remember. I was in a black out mode, and I didn’t even know what that was.

I woke up the next morning by the wheel by a 2 1/2 ton truck. I was dry heaving.

I found out later that what we was drinking was Zombies!

I got very upset with the guys for taking advantage of me, and they were sorry.
