God didn’t promise us a rose garden. There will be times when we will have to face adversity.

I found that out yesterday. I had my yearly physical last Thursday, and my doctor said he was a little concerned about my kidney results and wanted further testing. I didn’t think too much of it, and did the ultra sound test on my kidneys yesterday. Then the reality came in.

What could this test show? Why was the doctor in such a hurry to have the test? (He had me moved ahead of several other patients.) Did he see cancer? Are my kidneys failing?

“Worry is the dark room where negatives develop.”

That is a chapter title in my book, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World.”  I let my worrying put me in a state of confusion, and wondering what was next in my life.

Well, my ultra sound test results came back, and I talked to my doctorabout it this morning.

I have multiple cysts in both kidneys that are benign. My doctor said that it is nothing threatening, and I just need to have follow-up tests to make sure those cysts are behaving themselves.

So, all that worrying was wasted on things that didn’t happen. Statistics say that 99% of what we worry about never happens. We just need to turn the other 01% over to God.

I didn’t apply the principles that I wrote about in my own book, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World.” I need to sit down and read it again. 🙂

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And  above all (Doug) never, ever, give up!

I know about the hours, days and months it takes to write a book. Then there is the submission process. That can takes months or even years. One of the virtues of a successful author is perseverance.

It would very easy to give up when you don’t hear from a publisher for many months. It can be frustrating, when that agent you sent a proposal to doesn’t answer you emails.

I wet the self-publishing route just because of those reasons. I was able to be in control of what is on the cover. I had a great deal of input of what went on the back cover, and my share of the royalties was much higher.

I went through the back door. I feel I have been successful since the experts say and first time author, especially a self-published author should feel lucky if they sell 100 books in the life time of their promotions. I have sold nearly 400 in the first two years, and feel like I have many more ideas on how to sell many more.

Because of my sales, an agent is interested in taking me on as a client. I am in the process of writing her a proposal. So I didn’t go the nature route. I did my self-publishing first and then sought out agents and traditional publishers later.

It is up to you which way you want to go.

How about in your own life? Do you give up easily if something you want to happen doesn’t happen right away? Are you confused as to what way to go in your writing, or possibly in your own life?

Prayer is the way to go. I prayed for guidance many times through-out my writing career. I prayer just before I sent articles to magazines, in the early years of my writing. I prayed for help in deciding if I should self-publish or not. I feel the path I have taken was chosen by God, and it has lead me to a successful writing career.

Don’t “wing it,” through life. Pray constantly about everything. Ask God to help you choose the right path. You will find as you look back on your decision after prayer, that you took the right paths, and you are serving God in the best way you can.

Remember:

You are not alone.

You are not forsaken.

You are not unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

I have been receiving many emails lately from different marketing companies wanting me to sign-up to use their programs. How do I know which one is right for me?

My answer to that is you should meet marketing experts at a writer’s conference. Take one of their workshops, and see for yourself what they offer, and if the product is worth your time. I have had two separate workshops with marketing experts that did wonders for me.

I didn’t have to sign-up for anything, and there were many questions answered that wouldn’t have happened if I would have sign-up online for some online marketing company.

How about your own life? How do we know what is being told us by individuals is the truth? How can we rely on their view of what is right and wrong? The answer is that we can’t.

We have a clear picture laid out for us in the Bible. God’s Word should be more than enough for us to use that directs us on what paths we should take.

Don’t let, “False teachers” decide what is best for you. Let God decide what is best for you through His Word.
