Military news…

Retired Army Lt. Col. Barnard Kemter assumed it was a technical glitch when his microphone cut off during his speech in Ohio on Memorial Day, where he was discussing the role that freed Black slaves played in establishing the holiday. It wasn’t. It was the sabotage, which was meant to keep him from discussing the subject.

+He went on with his commanders voice and finished the speech.

_________

Apparently if you’re a retired general you can call for a military coup and get away with it, retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who the Pentagon has decided not to recall for a court-martial even though he appeared to suggest that the U.S. military should launch a coup against America’s civilian leaders on live television on Sunday. It seems that prosecuting treason, like most other crimes in the military, is a case of different spanks for different ranks.

_________

‘Retreat? Hell! We just got here!’ is 103 years old and still badass, about Marine Capt. Lloyd Williams, who in 1918 spat the legendary line in response to a French officer during the Battle of Belleau Wood. Over the next few weeks the Marines proceeded to walk the walk backing up Williams’ tough talk by pushing German troops out of the woods, though at a terrible cost.

________

“I’ve seen every war movie there is, but I had never seen anything like that,” is what Marine veteran Dale Dye, the military advisor for the landmark film Saving Private Ryan, said about the famous D-Day beach landing scene that set the war movie a cut above any that came before or since.

May 1st is approaching fast, and President Biden still is refusing to get our troops out of Afghanistan. He is breaking many hearts of loved ones who thought their loved one was coming home.

Yesterday, President Biden laid out his plan to get rid of guns. One of his starling comments was that no amendments of the Constitution are free from changing. He is going to use some more of his executive orders to make guns laws that no one will agree to.

I am impressed with our new Defense Secretary. As of today I feel he doing some good things. We will see.

Another step closer to getting my new book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and out of the Trenches of Life, published.

I have been cleaning up several interviews with veterans, and they are looking good. There are some shocking stories, and near death experiences.

I have four WWII interviews that are amazing. In all of them death was close.

I am going to be short today. I had a huge physical testing time yesterday and it has left me deflated. I had a nuclear stress test. It wasn’t terrible, but it zapped my strength.

A day late again. Sorry about that. I am still struggling with pain after my surgery. I see the doctor tomorrow.

I see some interesting things developing in our country. This weekend Donald Trump will be speaking at a huge gathering. This is his first public speech since he left office. Should be extremely insightive.

Today I am going to share an excerpt of my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.

I am leaping ahead here to my time deployed to South Korea. I have many stories about there in my book.

One of the pluses of joining the military was that I was able to sign up under the buddy plan. There were two other guys I enlisted with. We all went to high school together.

We had basic training together. We had Signal Corp training, and we were sent to Korea together. When we got there we were scattered to three different locations. Our training was needed at several spots.

Did I face the loss of a friend while deployed? Yes I did. One of the other friends never made it back to the states alive. He contracted some ugly virus, and died in Korea.

I took it very hard, but not to the point of PTSD. Back then they never heard of PTSD. They labeled mental stress as “Shell Shock.”

I did lose another buddy while in Korea. He got extremely drunk one night. As he came back to Camp Red Cloud from the village, he was wavering and struggling to stay on his feet. He accidently feel into a “Honey Bucket,” and suffocated. (A honey bucket in Korea is the name of a waste ditch that human waste is dropped into to fertilize their crops.)

It was a horrible death. I that was also very hard on me.
