This is a good time of the year to go to specialty shops and plug your book. I have sold my books in wineries gift shops, beauty salons, novelty shops, etc. It just takes a few minutes to go into any shop and speak with the owner. They can either say, yes or no. Offer them a 40% discount, and put the books on consignment. They have nothing to lose and you still make 60%. I have sold as many as 25 books in a store doing this.

They say this is the time of year where depression starts winning the battle with some of us. December is one of the highest months for suicides. There are many reasons for this:

A person is out of money and can’t buy a presents for their family.
A man has just lost his wife and it is his first holiday alone.
Everyone seems to be joyful and happy around you and you can’t see too much to be happy about.

Depression is not something to take lightly. I know I have been there. I was so depressed in 2001 that is was sitting in my Ford Explorer ready to end my life.

God stopped me that day and has been carrying me ever since. I talk about this in my book, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World.” I talk right away about my near death experience and then show the readers how they can overcome depression, self-doubt, anxiety, fear, hopelessness, and the many other usual suspects.

If you are one of those people struggling, or know of someone who is, this book could be a life saving book. I have received many phone call, letter, emails, etc., from people who say this book turned their life around, or helped someone they know.

Don’t let the darkness overcome you, or your loved ones. Reach out to others to help them, and help yourself as well. God is always there for you.

Being a Care Giver, Has its Good and Bad Moments

I just announced to my family at our Thanksgiving Day dinner about my b00k, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World,” winning a national award. It was named as a finalist at the Reader’s Favorite Awards.

They sent me stickers to put on my books. This well result in an increase in sales, and another talking point in my signings.

This was accomplished through hard work, and taking the time to enter the different award shows. Don’t ever think it won’t happen to you. Just do it!

Being a Care giving has its bad and good moments. Today was a bad (actuallly good) moment with my mom. She had been showing signs of clearing out a bladder infection, and they had finally decided that they could do a test on her next BM. They suspect she has another virus condition that is highly contagious, and they need to control it with the proper medication.

Well, I was with her in the dining room helping her eat, when she said, “I need to go to the bathroom.” When she says that it usually means we are too late.

That is exactly what it meant. When I got her back to her room and into the bathroom, she had a huge accident (BM) all over the floor, my right arm, and all over her cloths.

Why am I telling you this very unpleasant story? It is because they have been waiting a month for the right BM, and this was it. They got the culture they needed, and the clean up didn’t take that long. This brings a new meaning to the phrase, “God works in mysterious ways.”

Folks, That is what care giving is all about. It isn’t for the faint of heart.

I praise anyone who is a care giver for a loved one. It has its rewards, but there are also times when it can be hard, and down right depressing.

I love my mother and I believe that since she cared for me 24/7 when I was little, it is the least I can do for her now.

You can see the hurt in her eyes when something like this happens, but we all know that it isn’t her fault, and we show her even more love while she is going through it.

Caring for your parents, spouse, or children, can be heart breaking, but believe me they love you for doing it much more than you will ever know.

I am considering writing a book on care giving and its problems. Do you think there is a need for one?

Be Thankful for WhatYou Have, Not What You Want

It is late in the evening. It is Thanksgiving Eve. I am sitting here wondering what I have to be thankful for.

Let me list some:

I am married to a wonderful wife who cares for me, and knows me well enough to know when I am hurting. She is always there for me, and never doubts me.
I have three children that I sometimes feel I don’t deserve. That are all successful in their fields, and are Christian. They married Christian spouses as well. They constantly lift me up when I am down, and always have me back when I need them.
I have seven beautiful grandchildren, I could tell you about each and everyone of them, but I would be up for hours. They are all Christians, and are leaders in their schools.
My mother is still alive at the age of 95. She still smiles and tells me she loves me. She needs help each day and is a wheel chair, but I don’t flinch at the opportunity to help her since she helped me everyday when I was little.
Some people complain about their in-laws, but I have the most wonderful in-laws a person could ask for. We have such a great time every year when we gather for Thanksgiving. I look forward to tomorrow when we will laugh, eat, and share stories we need to do to catch up.

Thanksgiving is being thankful for the things we have, not the things we want.
