What an Easter weekend I had. I started out being optimistic about being “good,” with my eating and then completely failed on Saturday, the day before Easter.

We had a wonderful setting for the gathering. We were on the Oregon Coast, and it was a perfect day. There were no clouds; a little windy, but warm.

Then the family started coming. One had my favorite bean casserole. Another had ham that was  perfect. Then there was the spaghetti, made just right. Of course the scalloped potatoes.

Before we ate the main course, there were the appetizers. There was shrimp with some wonderful cocktail sauce. The deviled eggs were beyond description, and the homemade dip for the relish dish, was outstanding.

After I pigged out on all of that there were the desserts! Apple pie; perfect brownies; cupcakes, and chocolate pudding pie.

So, my dream of being good lasted only as long as I didn’t see the food. Once I saw it I fell apart quickly.

That happens to all of us in our daily lives. We “promise” to not sin, but when the temptation comes we often fall apart. We want the main dish of life , and the dessert as well.

Temptation for food, or our own desires in our lives are hard, at best, to conquer. That is when we need to turn to God. We need to depend on Him. If we think we can go life without God, Dr. Phil would ask, “How is that working for you?”

Always keep God on your side. When He is on you side, who can be against you?

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

Thoughts just for you…

Do you feel God might use you in same way to fulfill His purposes? If you do, you are right. Let me share some of the things God did to fulfill His purposes in the Old Testament:

  • He used people to accomplish His purposes.
  • He used events and personalities to illustrate important truths.
  • He used prophets  to announce the coming Messiah.
  • He used sacrifices to prepare the people to understand the Messiah’s coming work.

We learn to have faith from all of this pre-teachings. Without this enduring faith, we could easily be blown away by the winds of temptation, false teachings, or persecution.

To prevent having an unbelieving heart, stay in fellowship with other believers, talk daily about your mutual faith, and beware of the deceitfulness of sin. Also encourage one another with love and concern.

When you are truly in the faith, you will know God’s purpose for you. You will seek ways to accomplish that purpose, all for God’s glory.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

Above all…never, ever, give up!

Thoughts just for you….

There is a difference committing a sin and contributing to sin. Even the most faithful believers commit sins, but they do not cherish a particular sin and choose to commit it. A believer who commits a sin repents, confesses, and finds forgiveness. A person who continues to sin, by contrast, is not sorry for what he or she is doing. So the person never confesses and never receives forgiveness. Such a person is in opposition to God., not matter what religious claims he or she has.

As Christians we have areas where temptation is strong and habits are hard to conquer. Those weaknesses give Satan a foothold, so we must deal with our areas of vulnerability.

If we are struggling with a particular sins, we need to keep faithful to God, and ask for His help in overcoming them.

Three steps are need to win a victory over prevailing sin:

  1. Seek the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word.
  2. Stay away from tempting situations.
  3. Seek help from the body of Christ, the church, and be open to their willingness to hold you accountable and pray for you.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

Above all…..never, ever, give up!
