Military news…

“Thus, my first impression of sexual assault in the military was shaped by sarcasm and derision.” That’s from Lt. Col. Dillon Fishman, a judge advocate in the Marine Corps Reserve,  about the Corps’ halfhearted response to sexual assault accusations early in his career.

VA secretary warns veterans care could suffer with continued stop-gap funding measures

Democrats are seeking a 10% funding increase for the VA in fiscal 2022, bringing its total budget to nearly $270 billion. Forcing a 10-month continuing resolution would keep the VA at last year’s budget of $243 billion — an amount last negotiated under Trump’s administration.

Remains of NJ soldier killed in WWII identified 76 years after he went missing in Germany

Larry S. Wassil, of Bloomfield, was leading a three-man reconnaissance team scouting enemy positions near Bergstein in late 1944 when he disappeared, the U.S. Department of Defense said. Wassil and the two other soldiers scattered when Axis forces began firing on them.

My wife and I went to my wife’s sisters home for Thanksgiving Day. My brother-in-law’s parents were both WWII veterans. He was able to fly with his mother to Washington D.C. for her to be honored by President Obama. She was a nurse and shared many stories with me about her service. Turns out she was a “tough,” nurse with a golden heart.

I wrote about her in my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military; in and out of the Trenches of Life.

I will share an excerpt about her in an upcoming post. Come back to check it out. Better yet… go to the top of this page and click on, “Subscribe.” When you do all future posts will go directly to your inbox. (Just do it!)

It seems to me that things have gotten worse since we have a new president. His massive signing of executive orders are changing our country fast. Much of it, in my opinion, is not good.

His stopping of completing the border wall doesn’t make sense. It will allow thousand of people to cross that are up to no good.

He shut down a pipeline that will have 11,000 workers unemployed. He is suppose to be for the workers and unions, and he does this???

I am a registered democrat, but the last time I voted for a democrat was for Obama’s first term. I saw the light at that time and have been very selective on who I vote for since then.

I am for a president who wants to support our military, and Biden certainly isn’t that man. He had the National Guard sleep on cement floors in a parking lot, and told them to leave later.

I quoted a National Guard soldier in my previous post that said.

“I felt like I was trash to be put into the garbage.”

It is so sad to see this happening to our military. They are here to protect each of us. They enlisted to serve.

Got to share this with you!!

Audie Murphy earned his Medal of Honor 76 years ago today.

Audie Murphy — then a second lieutenant commanding Company B of the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division — found himself surrounded by six German tanks and wave after wave of enemy infantry while fighting in Holtzwihr, France.

Rather than retreat with his men, Murphy made a gutsy decision: He ordered his soldiers withdraw to the cover of nearby forest and set up their artillery while he remained at his forward command post to direct their fire.

Things quickly took a turn for the worse. A nearby Allied tank destroyer burst into flames following a direct hit from an enemy tank, its crew fleeing to the woods and leaving Murphy alone.

But Murphy didn’t shrink from the oncoming onslaught of German armor; instead, he mounted the burning tank destroyer and took on wave after wave of German infantry with nothing more than the vehicle’s .50 caliber machine gun and superhuman determination.

“Second Lieutenant Murphy’s indomitable courage and his refusal to give an inch of ground saved his company from possible encirclement and destruction, and enabled it to hold the woods which had been the enemy’s objective,” the citation reads.

Murphy’s bravery also earned him a spot in the history books as one of the most highly-decorated heroes in U.S. military history — and set a new standard for courage under fire in the process.

When you read that, it makes you very proud that you were a part of the military that he fought for.

Doug Bolton, the founder of the blog, Signs of Hope, which is at www.dailysignsofhope.com, has written a new book, “Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.” It reaches out the many military and veterans who may be battling anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, rejections, and the many other usual suspects. There are 22 military connected suicides every day. That is almost one every hour. Doug wants to help stop those statistics.

They will Fight

If Russia moves against NATO  in the Baltic states or Poland, NATO will stand and fight, a key NATO commander said. This evokes thoughts of a cold war.

The “cold war” has become a problem in that there may be a major conflict causing increasing tensions.

They will stand united against any aggressor.

The Deregulation President

The Federal Register, which contains all Federal rules, notices and regulations, topped 97,330 pages under President Obama. Under President Trump it has been shaved down to 45,678 pages.

The number of new rules for Trump was 65, way below the average of 213 rules from the last six presidents.

The cost for regulation soared from $68 billion under Bush, to $122 billion under Obama.

The Army Relaxes Rules on Recruits and Marijuana

In an effort to boost its ranks and hot new targets for enlistees, the Army is relaxing its rules on granting waivers for marijuana use.

The catch is that the new recruits have to pledge to never use marijuana again. (Really?)

IN 2017 the Army granted 506 waivers-up from 191 in 2016.

____________________________________________________________-

Could be a serious problems with a couple of the stories above. Allowing recruits to agree to not smoke marijuana again is pushing it. In the Vietnam days it was common for many of the soldiers to smoke.

Now they will be punished if they start again? Good luck with that.

The fact that NATO is willing to back us 100% is reassuring, but pray they never need to.
