Doug Bolton, the founder of the blog, Signs of Hope, which is at www.dailysignsofhope.com, has written a new book, “Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.” It will be reaching out the many military and veterans who may be battling anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, rejections, and the many other usual suspects. There are 22 military connected suicides every day. That is almost one every hour. Doug wants to help stop those statistics.

I see it has been almost three months since I last posted here. I have spent my whole summer battling an infection in my spine. I am just starting to feel well enough to be able to stop the daily IV doses of antibiotics.

I missed so much because of this. My family went on summer trips, but I couldn’t go because of the IV treatments everyday.

I wasn’t able to drive because the effects of the antibiotics made me drowsy and sleepy. So, not only was I in severe pain, I also was grounded and sent to my bedroom like a disobedient child.  I spent three weeks staring out my bedroom window hoping some birds or squirrels might come by for me to see.

This is a pretty sad story so far.

I want you to know something. I never faltered. I never cursed God. I never gave up my positive attitude.

I could have given up and let the dark side have its way.

It reminds me of when I was in a huge battle with depression while in the military, and beyond. I spent many days wondering what the world was all about, and if I wanted to be a part of it.

In 2001 I actually was sitting in my Ford Explorer thinking of checking out of this hotel called earth.

God woke me up that day. He stopped me in my tracks. He had plans for me, and it wasn’t my time to leave this earth. So now I am writing this post to you to share hope.

I also share hope on my blog at www.dailysignsofhope.com. As the title states, you get daily signs of hope. Check it out and join me there as well. Find out why 94,000 people are subscribers to the blog.

I have been labeled as the “hope whisper.”   I go to writer’s conferences and people address me with that name.

Why? Shouldn’t I be angry at the world? I had over ten years of serious ailments including five surgeries. This latest trial has been one of my hardest to accept.

I don’t feel anger. I don’t think this world is an awful place to be.

I have learned that we will all face trials and storms. Some will be raging storms. I have also learned that each time I make it through the storm I am a little stronger. I even learned that I can use my adversity, pain, and suffering to help others who may be going through the same things.

You are never unloved.

Why do we need the Bible? It is just a book. It has thousands of pages. It is sometimes hard to read.  Why bother?

I thought that many years ago. As a matter of fact my grandmother gave me a beautiful Bible. However, I never read it much because I was afraid I was going to tear the pages, and soil it.

I’m sure that is not what my grandmother had in mind at all. She probably wanted to it look worn, and have many dog ears in it.

I have learned that the Bible is full of living water. The words flow out like a river of love that refreshes us each day. It give us the armor we need to survive as Christians.

Unlike some people who have put their Bible up in the attic, which only give the rats some paper for their nest, we should read the Bible every day.

I realize this sounds a little harsh, but I was guilty of doing that with my grandmother’s Bible she gave me.

I don’t have anymore excuses. I know how important the Bible is for our daily plans in life.

What about you? Do you know where your Bible is? Do you read it often?

The Words from the Bible should be “music to our ears,” and give us hope in a not so friendly world.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

99% That we Worry About Never Happens. Give the Rest to God

I just a check in the mail for selling four more books. I am very pleased at the rate the books are selling. My book, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World,” has sold 204 books in just over four months. That is an average of about 50 a month. I certainly would like more sold, but I am thankful to God for the consistency.

My next goal is to sell 500. That officially gives you the right to say your book is a best seller. (Don’t ask me how that could be. It is in all the marketing books.)

You can certainly help with that by clicking on the tab at the top that says “bookstore,” and ordering a book yourself. I have just been lowered the price from $19.99 to $15.99, AND the shipping price has been cut in half to $2.35. That is a total of $6.00 savings if you order now.

Think about Easter coming up next month. This would be a wonderful gift to give out as an Easter present. It is full of uplifting thoughts, and talks about our risen Savior.

There is only one way this book will be a success, and that is through people like you buying the books, and then telling others. Word of mouth is always the best marketing tool.

I want to tell you about another book I am starting, but this is called a “teaser.” My next post will give you more details. Just one more teaser… it will be about sports.

Think on this:

  • 99% of what we worry about never happens. The other 1% you can turn over to God.
  • When two or more gather together to pray, God will be there with you.
  • When you smile at someone they usually smile back. This gives them more face value.
  • When you make it through a storm in your life, you are that much stronger for the next one.

I am asking for prayer for my good friend Michael Clark, who is my partner on our blog: www.dailysignsofhopecom. He has a very serious surgery coming up, and please pray that God will hold his hand throughout this ordeal and make him whole again.
