Military news…

First one is a little funny to me.

An 84-year-old man in Germany has been ordered to pay a fine of 250,000 euros after he was discovered to have an arsenal of World War II-era weapons in his cellar. The arsenal included a 40-ton Panther tank, one of the best tanks of the war.

U.S. Air Force B-52 bombers and AC-130 gunships are back dropping airstrikes on Afghanistan in an attempt to stop the Taliban’s blitzkrieg throughout the country. But so far, it does not appear to be working: at least five more of Afghanistan’s 17 provincial capitals have fallen to the Taliban over the past week.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will ask for President Joe Biden’s approval by mid-September to make the COVID-19 vaccines mandatory. But it might be a lot easier said than done.

U.S. service members could face a range of punishments, including administrative separation and court-martial, for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes mandatory. Commanders have a “range of tools to try to help individuals make the right decisions,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Tuesday.

Starting in October, the Air Force will break with decades of tradition by allowing its members to put their hands in their pockets while in uniform. The change is one of many grooming and uniform updates that loosen up restrictions for airmen (several of which involve hair).

I have been connected with a SFC in Kabul, Afghanistan. She is fearful that the city will be over run soon. She is very brave to be one of the last of the military still there. However, if the city is finally overrun, she is in a big harms way. The Taliban have no sense of mercy, and she will be killed.

I will keep you updated. We talk daily.

I saw a report on the new Apache helicopter. It will be awesome is much more deadly. It has tracking devices where no one can hide from them at all.

I have a buddy who was in Vietnam and he was a helicopter pilot. Great stories from him.

More Medal of Honor Recipients Who all Gave Their Lives to Save Others

Now that many of you are veterans and retired, here are some fun and diffrerent places to travel to:

  1. American sign museum– Yes there is a museum that just has signs. Thousands of them. Many will bring back memeories. It is in Cincinnati.
  2. Salvation Mountain– This is man made mountain that has painted flowers, stripes, and many other designs. It has been featured on “Ripley’s Believ it out Not.” Nilen, California.
  3. World’s largest ball of twine- It is 20,000 pounds and growing. Locals keep adding to it. It is in Cawker, Kansas.
  4. Carhence-There is the local version of Stonehedge but it is made of cars. 39 of them. It is free. It is in Alliance, Nebraska.
  5. South Carolia Peachoid– It is a water tour that is 135 feet high. Some say it looks like the rear of someone’s anatomy. It is actually is entended to remind you that peaches are the states top crop. It is at Gaffney, South Carolia.

More Medal of honor Heroes:

  1. PFC John Barnes- Barnes manned a machine gun after its crew had been killed. He then eliminated 9 enemy soldiers who were assauting his position. While retreving more ammo, Barne saw that a grenade had been thrown near some severly wounded comrades. He emmediatley dove on the grenade ending his own life, but saved many.
  2. PFC Carlos Lozada- Lozada stayed behind and poured deadly machine-gun fire on an advancing enemy force. This allowed his company to safely withdraw. When surrounded Lazada jumped from his covered position and fired his M-60 from the hip. This provided further protection for fellow soldiers. He was mortally wounded.
  3. Major Charles J. Watters Chalain– Watters repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire in oreder to aid fallen men outside the premimeter. Five times he did this. Five times fellow troops tried to hold him back. He persisted in aiding and carrying the wounded back to safety. On one of his trips, he was hit and killed.

  3. 376 names added since 1982.
  4. 160 Medal of Honor recipients.
  5. 120 individuals from other countries.
  6. 31 sets fo brothers.

  8. 8 women (All nurses)
  9. 3 sets of fathers and sons.

The American Legion and National Guard Reaches out to Help

Glad to be back today. I have an update on subscribers that you may not believe , but it is true. Five days ago there were 8,601 subscribers. Today there are 8,682. That is an increase of 81 in just five days. AMAZING AND WELCOME TO ALL OF YOU!

It has been a long haul for me. Since March I have been in lock down. I have underlying problems with my health, and I would be dead meat if I was to catch the virus. I am way past the staring at the walls stage. I am watching a couple movies on TV everyday. Most aren’t very good, but I am doing something. I am able to get out and walk, so the one blessing is that I have lost a lot of weight. I feel better because of that.

I am very high on the American Legion. They truly care for veterans. Here are some examples:

  1. Buddy Checks Help Veterans

Post 18 in Weehawken, N. J., has a buddy plan that really reaches out to other veterans. They especially check on older veterans. They connected with a recently widowed WWII veteran and helped him with outdoor chores he is no longer able to do on his own.

Blood Drive

  1. Post 199 of Harrison, Ohio had a blood drive that attracted more than 60 donors to help with the shortage caused by the Pandemic. The post also provided a free drive through hamburger lunch that fed 200.

60,000 Dollars raised

  1. At least $60,000 dollars was raised by the Department of Florida American Legion Riders in a virtual Unity Ride for the project, Vetrelief suicide Prevention Initiative.

The National Guard has stepped up to the plate and hit a homerun recently.

  1. They have been testing for the virus. 2.4 million people have been tested or screened.
  2. They have been on 7,000 missions supporting testing and screening.
  3. They have made 149 million meals packaged or delivered to those in need.
  4. The have delivered 88 thousand tons of food.
  5. They have driven 1.6 million miles delivering food and essential supplies.
  6. They have made 18 million masks.

Let’s talk about you my friend. How are you doing? I know there is a struggle just transitioning out of the military into the private sector for some of you. I know there are some who are battling PTSD, TBI, Depression, and war wounds. I know that some of you are being chased by memory demons who haunt you.
