This Pandemic is causing Havoc with Our Veterans

Since I last posted we have had 36 new subscribers. Welcome to all of you. We are now averaging over 15 new subscribers a day. I am proud to be your blogger, that wants the very best for each of you as veterans, or family members of veterans.

It has been a nightmare for those who are locked up and not able to get out to do things because of the virus. My State of Oregon is getting hit hard. The county I live in is a red hot spot for the virus. Second highest in the state.

As a veteran, who has underlining problems with my health, I have no choice. My wife and I go on walks. We get in our car and drive to no where just to get out. We do our grocery shopping online and go to the store, and they bring out what we ordered.

I fear that this Pandemic is causing havoc with those veterans who have their own battles of PTSD, TBI, Depression, Anxiety, etc. They are fighting their own, war only to have the enemy coming to their door.

Here are some suggestions to get your mind off of what is happening in the world.

  1. Do not turn the TV on and read. There are millions of great books at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and many smaller book stores online, like Powell’s Books in Portland Oregon.
  2. Write! This is a wonderful way to get “away.” I wrote my first book,Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World, just from some journals I had written, and it won a National Award from the Reader’s Favorite Awards. WRITE!
  3. Some have taken up art. You can draw or paint. I am not good at either, but you may have just what you need to relieve yourself of stress.
  4. Hand select movies on your TV that are uplifting and makes you laugh. We have a free movie section on our TV. I have watched a ton of them the last three months.
  5. Use Zoom, Skype, or any other connection, to talk to your buddies, or family. I have been doing this and it gives me hope and helps me smile.

Exciting Events Coming up in Oregon

I have a very busy Christmas month coming up. Hope you can make some of them:

December 7th: Signing at Willamette Christian School 6:30-9:00 p.m.

December 8th: Signing at the Oregon State Capital 4:00-6:00 p.m.

December 10th: Signing at Eola Hills Winery 6:00-9:00 p.m.

December 11th: Signing at Wings of the Soul Christian Bookstore in Salem, Oregon

December 14th: Speaking at a Kiwanis Club breakfast in Albany, Oregon 7:00 a.m.

December 14th: Signing at Willamette Christian School. 6:30-9:00 p.m.

My schedule will be filled in even more as the days go by so stay tuned.

Let me share more information on some of these events:

  • The two Willamette Christian signings will be at a school that two of my granddaughters go to. I am signing on the nights that each of them perform in their Christmas programs. A double dip time for me.
  • The signing at the Oregon State Capital will be with several politicians, and other Oregon authors. It will be a special time to come and see the capital, and but some wonderful books as Christmas gifts.
  • The signing at Eola Hills Winery will be the highlight signing for me this year. If you need to choose one to go to, this would be the one.

I will have many special performers and guests to this Gala event:

  1. Mindy Taylor-Heresy: Local recording artist. She will sing and sign her CDs.
  2. Julie Hoy: National recording artist who will be singing some songs from her latest Christmas CD, and signing  afterwards.
  3. The Investments: A barbershop quartet from Corvallis, Oregon will be performing all night by going from table to table.
  4. Laura Morett: Special guest speaker who was a TV star from the Survivor Reality TV show of 2009. She will sign autographs afterwards.
  5. I, of course, will be there to talk on “Signs of Hope for Christmas,” and signing books afterwards.

The speaking engagement at the Kiwanis Club in Albany, Oregon will be a reunion of sorts, because I was once the president of the club back in the 80’s. There are still many members that were members back then. I will speak on, “The Signs of Hope for Christmas.”

Hope to see some of you at one of these events. If you can’t make one of them, my book, Signs of Hope:Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World, can be bought on line at: Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble. It can also be bought at: www.winepressbooks.com, or own my own author website at: www.dougbolton.com. If you order from my website you will a personal note, and autograph with the book.

God bless…

Doug

Signs of Hope was on Talk Radio

I just finished a radio talk show interview, and Maxine Marsolini,  the person who interviewed me, reminded me that I don’t have  information on how you can have your story written in a future book I am working on that will have true stores of Signs of Hope that some of you have had in your lives.

What you do is share your moment where God did some miracle, or changed your life in some way.

Just send your stories to doug@dougbolton.com and if they are chosen you will have your “15 minutes” of fame writing in the up coming book. You will get credit at the end of the story.

What a wonderful interview today. I was able to share a great deal to reach out to those who are suffering in this economy, and talk about my book, “Signs of Hope: Ways to survive in an Unfriendly World.”

You can buy the book right here on this site by clicking on “bookstore,” on the tabs above.

It is also available at www.amazon.com, barnes and Noble .com, www.winepressbooks.com. and at any Rainbow West Christian bookstores in Oregon and Washington.

I have signings coming up at:

Borders Bookstore, 2235 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem, Oregon.  It will be held on November 6th, from 2-4 p.m.
