This has been quite a week. I have been in  Texas since Wednesday enjoying the warmer weather and all the great restaurants. Tomorrow is the big game for my alma mater Oregon State University to play the University of Texas. We will be there cheering our team on.

At this time I wonder what the outcome of the gae will be. Will we win, and have us all very happy, or will we lose, and make us feel down.

Life is like that. We sometimes get an outcome we really didn’t want. We lose our job; we get bad news from our doctor, or our health insurance is no longer with us.

That is the time to concentrate on God more. I said more, because we always should be keeping God in mind, in the bad and the good.

Many people only turn to God when the trials and storms come. They feel they can make it on their own just fine the rest of the time.

Remember, God is there for you now. He was there yesterday, and He will be there tomorrow. He is just a prayer away.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

You Are Not Unloved

Most of us can give thanks for all the plentiful food, and “things,” we have. There are those who aren’t so lucky. There are those who live in their cars, or under bridges.

Many of these people are children, who go to school during the day, and then sleep in an alley at night.

What can we do to help these people. It is the holiday season, but these people don’t feel the spirit of joy that others have. They may not have any presents to open on Christmas Day. They may not any food to eat as well.

So, what can we do:

  • Go to your local mission where the homeless spend their nights and invite one or to of them to you big feast with you family. Yes, there will be some raised eyebrows. Yes, some will try to convince you it is the wrong thing to do, but do it anyway, and you will bring joy into someone’s life.
  • Go to the bridges in your area and give out some of your old clothing to those who are cold, and need warmth. You would probably take them to Goodwill anyway, and this way you know the person that got them really needed them.
  • Give out you change at those at street corners. I know, many of them aren’t that bad off, but which ones? You don’t know who is conning you, or really need help. Just give out some change to everyone on the streets this holiday season.

These don’t impose on you that much, but your gesture will go a long ways towards helping someone who really is in need.

Remember:

You are not alone.

You are not forsaken.

You are not unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

You Are Not Forsaken, but Others Are. Help Them.

I know of some close friends who are not so merry at this Christmas season. One friend lost his wife, and this is his first Christmas alone. Another has a mom that is in an assisted living facility, and has no one to come to see her.

I suppose many of you have similar stories. There are the alone, the forsaken, and the unloved trying to exist this week.

What can you do to help out in this type of situation:

  • Go to an assisted living home, even if you don’t have someone you know there, and just sit with a few of the lonely and sad people who are there. Cheer them up with your smile and conversation. That is all you have to do. You don’t have to try to make it a time of wonderful joy. Just you being there sitting with them will make their day. I know I have done this.
  • Call someone you know will be alone during the holidays, and let them know you care. Just that one gesture may be the difference for them to have a joyous holiday season.
  • Visit a neighbor you know has no one to come to see them during the holidays. Just spend a hour or two with them to cheer them up.

None of these gestures takes a lot of your time, nor are they hard to do. Just being with someone or talking to them can do wonders in a person’s life.

If you are one of the lonely and feeling sad people….

Remember:

You are not alone.

You are not forsaken.

You are not unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!
