It is important to stay connected with fellow veterans. I have been trying to do that for years.

I have a friend that I meet with every Tuesday and Thursday for coffee. We catch up with the world, and our feelings. Always feel refreshed when I leave.

I have a Zoom meeting every Tuesday morning. There is a veteran on there, and we even went to high school together. Fun stories and serious talk.

Seek out other veterans and share your good stories and your hurts.

Some people think we should be cutting back on funding for the military. Are they deaf and blind? We are near a war with several countries, and the writing on the wall says, stand ready!

Can’t be ready if we are cutting back on equipment and troops.

Everything that could go wrong seems to be happening in the Ukrainian war. Massive Russian death totals, tons of equipment destroyed, many Russian soldiers captured. It seems like Ukraine is winning the war.

Putin has gone crazy, and can’t be controlled. There is fear that he will use nuclear weapons to try to win. Then we will be in WWIII.

I was amazed how much I “Grew up,’ while in the military. I signed up when I was 18 years old. Never have had alcohol to drink, and had never left my home town. Boy, was I in for a surprise!

I had basic training with little problems. I went MOS training and little happened.

Then I was deployed to South Korea. My world changed completely after that.

On the way over there in a ship, we stopped at Naha, Okinawa. LORDY! I looked down the main street, and every building had a red light outside of it. There was a prostitute outside each building trying to get you to come in and have sex with them. It was sin city. I sat down with some buddies, and they tried to get me to test the waters. I was too shy and scared to do that.

Everyone my table got up and went with a prostitute. I decided that this was a losing trip for me.

______________________________________________________________

Then when I got to South Korea, all Hell broke loose. As I was putting things away in my bunk area two guys came walking in and were very friendly, They invited me to go with them to The Camp bar.

That night I went with them to see what was going on, and to gain new friends.

It was ten cent night. Meaning everything there was only ten cents. My new friends convinced me to try a drink they like. I hesitated and then realized that making new friends was important. They got the drinks and sat down. They handed me the drink and it looked dark gray, and a big glass.

They talked me into trying a sip. I did and my throat exploded, and I felt the drink going down to my stomach. They laughed, and said “Welcome to Korea. ” They later told me that the drink was a Zombie. I stayed with them the rest of the night. I got extremely drunk. I then had a blackout. I woke up several hours later lying next the wheel of a 1/2 ton truck.
