Big news for the many airmen out there who want to grow out their beards: not only is there little evidence showing that beards interfere with a gas mask seal, but the Air Force’s ban on beards may also be contributing to racial discrimination and hurting promotion opportunities within the service. This is a new study showing the harmful consequences of the Air Force’s current beard policy.

After months of uncertainty, President Joe Biden’s administration will finally start evacuating vulnerable Afghan interpreters and their families by the end of the month. “Operation Allies Refuge” will evacuate Afghans who are eligible applicants for Special Immigrant Visas, though it’s unclear yet where they will be taken, or how many people will be evacuated.

____________

Thursday was a historic day as a woman became the U.S. Navy’s first female special operator. The unnamed sailor was one of 17 to graduate the Naval Special Warfare’s assessment and selection pipeline, and now she’s a bone fide Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman.

___________

Former Afghan interpreter Mirza Sayeed Nayab’s life is in danger because of a clerical error. Nayab worked with U.S. troops in Afghanistan for four years, but now he is stuck in the country, where invading Taliban fighters might kill him. And it’s all because his supervisor failed to put the date and time next to his signature in Nayab’s application for a Special Immigrant Visa.

Sharing another excerpt from my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.

Desperate People do Desperate Things

I saw some frightening things things that happened in Seoul, South Korea, while driving through. Earlier in this book I shared about the little old lady who starved to death right on a busy street, because no one cared.

Another time as I was riding through Seoul was knowing that we had to drive very slow through some of the tight streets. we had to do this because we saw Fathers and mothers holding their children ready to throw them in front of our truck. They did this to try to get compensation money from the military. Yes, they were sacrificing their children for money. How could anyone even think of doing that?

They were desperate for food and clothing for the rest of the family. They had no means of income, and they had to find ways to survive. We see similar types of things going on all over the world. There are people allowing their children to be sold a s sex slaves. Other people even pay money to crooks so they can sneak across borders to find jobs.

Do we need to have people so poor that they will let their children die, or be sold into slavery?

Of course not! We put on our uniforms to protect these kind of people. We are doing what is right by defending them to the death.

Never be ashamed of your service to your country. You have been chosen to represent your country in a way that shows courage and a love that passes all understanding.

Military news…

The military’s got a long list of more important things to worry about than ‘wokeness’ and ‘critical race theory, which reminds readers that the national security universe does not revolve around whatever Fox News host Tucker Carlson thinks of it. For example, have you heard of private housing contractors forcing military families to live in mold and rodent-infested houses? Yep, that’s a thing, and it’s still going on.

_______________

A private donor is funding a National Guard deployment and nobody’s sure if it’s legal or not. South Dakota governor Kristi Noem said on Tuesday that up to 50 of her state’s Guardsmen are deploying to Texas to help secure the border with Mexico. Apparently a Tennessee billionaire is paying for it, which has national security experts and legal scholars scratching their heads.

______________

Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who led the Pentagon at the start of the Global War on Terrorism in 2001, has died at 88. Rumsfeld was SecDef when Jeff first started out reporting on the military, so no one can summarize better, or more succinctly, than Jeff can Rumsfeld’s outsized impact on America’s national security more than 15 years after he left office.

_____________

Sixty Army special operators who fought in the Battle of Mogadishu 28 years ago are having awards they’d previously received for their heroic actions upgraded to Silver Stars and Distinguished Flying Crosses. The 15-hour battle, now known to history as ‘Black Hawk Down,’ saw 18 soldiers killed and dozens wounded in some of the heaviest fighting since the Vietnam War.

______________

There is no hiding the fact that Afghanistan is collapsing in real time and as a result the country will look remarkably similar to how it appeared on Sept. 11, 2001. The Taliban control most of the country, and are now just a two-hour drive from the capital, Kabul.

One thing I really remember about time in the military was the “hurry up and wait” slogan.

I can’t tell you how many times I had to wait for new equipment to come. I struggled with the old beaten up equipment far too long.

Another thing I remember about the military was the closeness the soldiers had. There were no barriers of race or creed. We were all brothers working together to protect our country.

These current thoughts of training the military about racism, is not a waste, but the soldiers already know about racism, and do not use it at anytime.

Military news…

The Pentagon is looking for a few good Nazi-hunters. Just kidding, they’re looking for just one senior executive to think up ways to prevent and respond to “supremacist, extremist, and criminal gang activity” in the U.S. military. The job opening comes amidst a recent surge of alarm bells over the rise of extremism within the ranks, including one neo-Nazi soldier who planned to attack his fellow troops.

Finding your tribe outside of the military
Erik Bartell left the military with no idea what he was going to do next. After serving for six years as an Army infantry officer, an injury forced him to make a decision. Erik had always wanted to lead, but with this injury, he would not be able to lead Soldiers directly in the field. He made the difficult decision to leave the Army and soon found inspiration from an unlikely source, fitness.

Healing the hidden wounds of war
Founded in New York City in 2012, The Headstrong Project was created to help military veterans and their families overcome PTSD and other military-related traumas. The founders of Headstrong saw a deep need for mental health services for post-9/11 veterans. They also saw a large gap between the care that was available and veterans’ access to it.

Airmen may soon be able to choose their own adventure when it comes to physical fitness tests, even if it involves walking. That’s what the Air Force announced on Monday. When Lt. Gen. Brian Kelly said the service would experiment with giving airmen options for how they want to perform their test. You other military branches may laugh, but some airmen say that walking for a fitness test is actually a lot harder than it sounds.

__________

“Anything can happen in this sport,” says Spc. Alejandro Sancho, one of 12 Army athletes and three coaches going to the Olympics this summer. While Sancho will compete in Greco-Roman wrestling, other Army athletes will compete in boxing, shooting, swimming and more. The Olympics begin on July 23, so now’s the time to start getting hyped.

This last story reminds me of a very sad response from one of the Olympic performers. She decided to let people know she was anti American, by turning her back from the American flag and holding a women activist t-shirt up.

This caused lots of controversy of course, but the final straw of all this was that our own president says he is Ok with her doing that.

Biden admin ‘respects’ Olympic athlete’s ‘right’ to insult America

Those headlines didn’t go well with me. In my opinion and many others she should be dropped from the Olympic team since she hates America so much. The Olympics is all about patriotism towards your home country.
