I am switching my thoughts to my up coming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In an Out of the Trenches of Life.

I am going to give you the outline again. It has been awhile since I last did that:

  1. The first section will stories from my basic training. This will have humor, some tense moments, and proud moments. At the end of each chapter I will be sharing thoughts on how you and I can survive in the not so firendly world as civilians.
  2. The second section will have stories from my deployment to Korea. It also will have some humor, tense moments, and unfortantly some very sad moments.
  3. The third section will sotries from my time at FT. Bragg. again, a little humor, but a few very scary moments.
  4. The last section is my favorite part. It is full of interviews from veterans who have been there and done that. Some of these stories are very scary, sad, humorous, and fansicnating. I have WWII, Korean, Iraq, Vietnam, and Afghanstan, interviews from soldiers.

I am going to share you an interview today. It is about a WWII veteran who had a near death experience.

I will name him in the book, but not now.

He was in France and he and four of his buddies were pinned down. I mean really pinned down by enemy fire. You can think about trenches to hide in, but these poor guys could only lay flat in furrows. Those are what is left after a plow comes through. If they stuck up any part of thier body they were dead.

My friend heard something coming up behind him. It was the tank Corp. They pulled over the top of him; opened the hatch, and pulled him in. They did that with the other four buddies as well. They didn’t know heroes had their backs.

  1. PTSD
  2. TBI
  3. War wounds
  4. depression, Suicidial thoughts
  5. People left behind after deployment
  6. Much more

Had a very intersting weekend. Went and stayed in Portland for my niece’s wedding. Yes, that is the Portland that has had 101 straight days of rioting. Well, we hit it lucky. The smoke from the wild fires in Oregon was so thick, the rioters were too cowardly to come out and play. Of course they were back in full force today.

Ted Wheeler, (Weak Man) the mayor of that city, told the Portland Police they couldn’t use tear gas anymore because it was too harmful. So the Federal Agents protecting the Federal buildings used it instead. I love it!!

I know this all sounds wee bit harsh, but people have died; businesses have been destroyed, and many police were hurt.

Thought I would share a couple of jokes to cheer us up. We can really use it.

  1. People who think times heals everything haven’t sat it out in a doctor’s waiting room!
  2. What do you call an apology with dots and dashes, re-morse code.

Just got an email from a Sargeant Major from Vermont a few minutes ago. He is battling COVID-19, and he lost his wife to it August 30th. Sad to hear one of our brothers is going through so much pain. Be strong my friend and get well.

Supreme Court judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away today. A big loss to the liberal cause. She was a great lady. I didn’t agree with much of what she believed, but I admire her for her leadership.

It is September 11, 2020. 19 years ago today our nation was attacked. Many lives were lost. There were many heroes created on that day and the days after. Flight 93 was a plane load of heroes who gave up their lives to save many others.

I remember that day very clearly. My wife and I were at my son’s home in LaPine, Oregon. We had the TV on. It was inturrupted with the shocking news about the deadly attack. We both were stunned. We had a boy in the service and we feared he would be put in harm’s way. We couldn’t do anything, but leave and go home, even though we were supposed to be there several days.

We should never, ever, forget that day. It changed our lives forever.

___________________________________________________________

I pray that you didn’t lose a loved one on that day. Many families did. We as a nation came together quickly after that day. Young men and women inlisted in the military to help fight the dangers that these events can cause.

___________________________________________________________

i am watching on TV right now a soldier receiving the Medal of Honor. He saved over 70 lives in one operation. His courage and determination was far beyond the call of dutry.

There are so many other stories like this. Our veterans, and current military do not fear for their lives. They fear for those loved ones back home who may be in danger.

How you doing my friend? Were you part of that terrible day? Did you lose loved ones on that day? I am so sorry if you did. My heart is aching for you.

This world can be pretty overwhelming these days. There are so many things to worry about. The Pandemic, rioting, wild fires everywhere, and people on the edge of giving up.

I need to remind you that this month is suicide preverntion month. Please get help if you are at that stage. Here is a toll free number to call right now. It is open 24/7.
