Whew!! What a horrible year we have had. 2020 will be one we will try to forger but probably will not. Just too many negatives in one year:

The pandemic is still raising its ugly head.. We still don’t know for sure who our next president will be. We faced wild fires like we have never seen before. The rioting took its toll as well. Other than that 2020 was fine. 🙁

I got a great Christmas present! My wife gave me a subscription to Netflix. . It was so needed. I had run out of “free,” movies,” to watch that were mediocre at best.

Now I have my subscription all set up for only the kind of movies I like. What kind? Military movies of course. I have watched three or four of them already.

Three of them were true stories. Two of them broke my heart. I will be sharing the titles with you as I go through the list of movies.

I just can’t forget my brothers and sisters who are deployed and in harms way. Talk about loneliness!

One of the movies I watched was about a British company that was sent to Africa to protect to people from the rebels who were trying to overcome the people.

There were 150 British soldiers, and they were attacked by 1,500 rebel warriors. The British held them off for three days, and then had to surrender, because of the overwhelming numbers against them.

The real story here, was that not one man was killed of British troops, but hundreds of the enemy were. The soldiers never gave up. They were going to fight until the last man, but their commander decided he didn’t want any of his men slaughtered.

A interesting side story is that the commander went to the city, and went into a bar to have a drink. He met a man who invited him to drink Cognac with him. The commander did and they got along fine. Then the commander found out the the leader of the enemy was this same man.

The two of them actually met in the middle of the battlefield to discuss surrender. The enemy soldier ask the commander to surrender, because he has so many men on his side that wanted to kill them all. The commander said, “Actually I was going to ask you to surrender.”

The enemy leader was impressed, and reached out his hand and they shook hands, and each went back to their lines.

I will leave you up in the air as to the final outcome. Here is the title of the movie. Watch it if you can:

It has been a few days since I last posted. The Christmas rush overcame me.

It has been quite a ride. Coming into last week, I was in a hum bug mood. I couldn’t get the Christmas spirit going. I was having my pity party that no one wanted to come to.

Christmas Eve came and it was just my wife and I alone. Except that we did a Zoom gathering. ALL of my family was on one screen. Three of my children and their spouses. Nine grandchildren, and a partridge in a pear tree.

We all opened our presents while the others watched. We did gift baskets this year so that we didn’t have to buy so many presents. It was wonderful. Each basket had goodies galore. Wine, bakery goods, nuts, and many other wonderful stuff. The bakery goods were hand made by the way. I have gained six pounds just since Christmas Eve!!

Then we went on and had a very small gathering of my wife’s sister, brother-in-law, their daughter and her husband. We exchanged gifts, and I made out like a bandit. I got a logo mask from my alma mater at Oregon State University. Yah! A great puzzle of different dogs. (I love dogs!) I also got a subscription for Netflix. Already watched seven movies.

Then yesterday afternoon we connected again on Zoom with some close friends we have known for over forty years. One couple was from Cannon Beach, Oregon, and the other was a lady friend from Jacksonville, FL. Each of them also had their children on Zoom with them. It was so much fun. Remembering things from the past and catching up.

Why am I sharing my boring times this holiday? It is because I needed it to happen to get me out of my funk. I was so deep in despair that I couldn’t see the forest through the trees.

While I was at my pity party, I started thinking about the troops that couldn’t be home for Christmas. Then I really told myself to knock off the whining, and be thankful that they are willing to do that.

I have a few years where I couldn’t be home, and I know the loneliness, and the overwhelming urge to want to be home with family.

Thank all of you who served away from home during the holidays. It is extra hard, and I admire you for you service during these times.

President Trump signed to bill that will get the money neded for the troops. I can certainly see why he didn’t want to sign it. It is the biggest pork bill ever. Many bills thrown into one to appease the idiots in Congress.

He was a very brave man to hold out so long, but his better judgment helped him follow through.

He has been a great president, and unless some miracle pops up he will be gone in a few weeks.

The very sad news to start off with. Our president has vetoed the main bill that supports the military. Even most of the Republicans are mad. Now sure what this means. More to follow in future posts.

This is the time to do some deep thinking. It is just two days before Christmas and we have thousands of soldiers deployed who will not be home with their families. We can complain ourselves because many of us will not be able to be with our families, but remember they are safe and our military are in harms way.

Pray for them. We need to get connected some how through the Zoom type programs. A phone call, however short it is, will lift up their spirits greatly.

Well, the vaccine is finally getting out to the people. I thought I was way down the list, but found out that because of my health issues I am next inline after all the first responders and assisted living folks.

I have one thing that has me boiling!! I found out that our governor has decided to let the prisoners in our state get their shots before they even give any to the assisted living people. apparently they whine to the governor in my stats, that they can’t social distance so they need it now. She gave in.

Maybe they shouldn’t have been placed in that Hell hole in the first place!! They did something bad and they shouldn’t whining at all.

I have been sharing all the new equipment the military is getting to up date all of their arsenals and far better equipment. is coming.

I believe a strong military helps avoids any wars.
