Many interesting bits of news today. Now I am going to be talking directly to you.

I was able to get my second COVID-19 shot today. It was smooth and quick. I saw many veterans inside getting their shots. To top that, the National Guard is running it.

I am feeling OK so far. They say the second day is the real test.

Yesterday, I got my haircut in Waldport, Oregon.

It is a nice getaway for my wife and I at the Oregon Coast.

I was waiting my turn when my hair lady let me know that the guy she just finished with was the guy I called for an interview several months ago.

I was in shock. I had never met him in person. I went up to him and explained who I was, and he was excited to meet me.

He has a great story and it will be in my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.

He is a vietnam veteran, and has a very funny story as part of his interview. I will give you a clue. It deals with a monkey.

Also, while I was there, my hair lady told me there was another veteran in the place. She pointed him out and I went to him to greet him.

He is a Coast Guard veteran. We do not give them the credit they are due.

I told him when I was in, and he said he was in 61-65. I was in from 59-62, so we over lapped. He got a little excited and said he was on alert for the Bay of Pigs endeavor. I told came him I was too. We became instant buddies.

He has agreed to do an interview with me and he will be in the book as well.

My next post will talk about the fear and hardships of troops on the front lines. I will sharing about WWII veterans and Afghanistan soldiers. I hope their stories will get your interest. They all will be in the book as well.

I got a reply to one of my posts. It was a retired Army man, who was struggling. He has serious PTSD. The guy has overwhelming responsibilities, plus dealing with many other health issues.

Got to be very honored that he send me this message. I can now connect with him and be his “buddy.” We will share our feelings, and try to not cause problems. Just be a friend to talk to and support.

This can happen to so many veterans. The transition is too much sometimes. What do I do now?…. is what many ask.

This question has faced many of you. You get out and you feel isolated, lost and bewildered.

I have talked to so many veterans that are fighting some sort of problems. Many are just clinging too long to their military routine. They can only operate with some kind of structure. This sometimes alienates them from the rest of their family.

The answer to this is not easy. First of all get help. The VA has programs to help you transend to civilian life. They have medications to help with your PTSD, or other ailments you may have.

It will also take some work on your part. Do not hide and let the dark side overcome you. Stand strong and fight back.

You are more than worth it. Your family is worth it. They will support you and help you through your storms.

I am trying to get my second COVID shot. I am scheduled to have it this Thursday. I am hearing that they run out on some days. I am hoping since I and scheduled to have my shot early in the day that I will be oK.

The National Guard is helping with the shots. They are so courteous and kind. They have a great “Bedside manners.”

I still can see the young PFC who pulled me out of a big line to get my first shot. He was a guardian angel. I think it was because I had my Army hat on. It was brothers helping brothers.

I am hearing more and more, how our new president could care less for the military.

The latest report says that he made the National Guard sleep in a parking lot with only one bathroom.

There is no respect happening since we changed leadership.

What a horrible day we had on Wednesday of this week. I was ashamed to say I was an American when I sat and watched what was going on.

I am 100% against what happened.

They accomplished nothing, and it put a stain on our country.

This kind of terrorism has to stop and it has to stop now.

I thought I would share a couple of excerpts from my up coming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.

This is actually two stories of where I lost a buudy.

The first one is when three of us buddies decided to enlist in the military together. We were in basic together. We were in MOS training, and we were sent to Korea. Three of us together, but only two came back alive.

One of my friends came down with some local crude and died. No real answers there, but a huge loss to me.

The second buudy I lost was while I was deployed to Korea. One of the Signal Corp guys and became good friends. We worked together and played together.

One morning when we had formation, I noticed he was missing. The officer in charge announced that my buddy had “drowned,” in a honey bucket. A Honey Bucket is a spot where all the farmers bring their human waste to be used to fertilize the crops.

I found out later that my friend got seriously drunk and was staggering back to our camp in the dark. He stumbled into the honey bucket and suffocated. He did drown.

That broke my spirit for a long time. Two buddies gone in one year. ___________________________________

Have you lost a buddy? Does it still cause you pain? I hear you clearly!!

Don’t forget that there are 10,800 fellow veterans on this site who have been on the same boat. They have your back.
