“Another day another dollar.” That was a saying during my youth. We were poor and lived one pay check to the next.

This was also the time WWII started. I had three uncles enlisted to fight in that war. Two of them earned Purple Hearts.

My mother loved General Douglas MaCarthur so much she gave me his first name.

I have three interviews in my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life, with WWII veterans. They are all with near death experiences. Keep coming back to see more. Better yet…go to the top of this page and click on subscribe.

USS Arizona survivor: Honor those killed at Pearl Harbor

USS Arizona sailor Lou Conter lived through the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, though his battleship exploded and sank, and is called a hero. He rejects the characterization: “The 2,403 men that died are the heroes.”

My wife and other family members went to Hawaii in August. One of the important stops was Pearl Harbor. I always get emotional when I go there. So many lives lost of people serving their country. I went to the spot that the USS Arizona was. That is when I really broke down. There were so many brothers still down there in that water.

I had walker, because my legs had gotten weak. I sat in my walker at the USS Arizona until my wife said we had to go.

I thought of the families that lost a loved one. I thought of their sorrow and pain. Their son, husband, brother, uncle, was gone. Never to even have a correct burial. It saddened me greatly.

I am very proud to say, that I am one of them. I served and came home.

Just found another veteran to interview. He is a submariner. Not just any submariner, a nuclear submariner. Should be a fantastic interview. Keep coming back to read more about this, and the progress of my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the trenches of Life.
