The American Legion is Reaching Out to Help

The American Legion, which I am a member of, does a lot of things that do not make the news. Here are some things I found about some Legion posts across our country.

  1. 5,300 diapers distributed by Post 760 in Oceanside California.
  2. 10,000 pairs of latex gloves and 1,000 masks. They also sent gallons of hand sanitizers and many surgical gowns at Post 1.
  3. Post 405 in Philadelphia set up a Zoom meeting for many veterans to connect and share their worries, and just having someone to talk to who cares.
  4. 100 pounds of food collected by children of Legionnaires to give to those in need.
  5. $5,000 dollars donated to the food bank in Pennsylvania, by post 104.
  6. 1,600 Buddy Checks made by Post 83 in Merced, California. This is a way to check on your veterans friends to make sure they are OK. Here is a link to see how it works. www.legion.org/publications.

I will be sharing more as I compile them from reading and searching the internet.

Active Older Veterans Fall More, Get Hurt Less.

Physically active veterans are more likely to fall, but less likely to get hurt, compared to inactive older people.

The take away from this is when you are more active you have less chances of getting hurt.

Joke of the day:

With High-Definition TV everything looks wider and bigger. Kind of like my 62nd class reunion. (My actual reunion time for me. Yes I am old, but I am good!)

How are you doing brother/sister? Everything going OK? I have heard from some that are not doing well. PTSD, has raised its ugly head, and trying to control some of you.

DO NOT let that happen.

Get help! You are not a sissy if you get help. I know, people think you need to be tough if you are a veteran. That is not true! I needed help and I got it. I WOULD NOT be here today if I didn’t get help! I was a breath away from checking out of this hotel called earth, and I was saved.

I am sure you have many other demons chasing you like, depression, anxiety, fear, self-doubt, etc.

Stop the madness and call for help. Here is the connection line to get that much needed help.

PREVENTS Roadmap Released: On Wednesday, VFW Washington Office Executive Director B.J. Lawrence attended the release of the President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide (PREVENTS), which is a nationwide plan for ending suicide. The PREVENTS Task Force calls for a number of steps to be taken, including a nationwide public health campaign to change the culture around suicide and mental health, launch a National Research Strategy for effective solutions for the prevention of suicide, and build partnerships among organizations to share best practices.

VA to Host Virtual Women Veterans Event June 23: Next week, the VFW will join VA Acting Deputy Secretary Pam Powers who will host an event for women veterans on June 23 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. EST. VA Secretary Robert Wilkie will kick off the event to include presenters from all three VA administrations, as well as the Center for Women Veterans, and the Veterans Experience Office. The discussion will focus on how VA responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, address how VA has changed as a result of it, and the post-pandemic environment.

MIA Update: The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced three new identifications for service members who have been missing and unaccounted-for from WWII and the Korean War.

TRICARE Dental Program Increasing Annual Maximum: United Concordia, the TRICARE Dental Program contractor, announced it will be raising every enrollee’s annual maximum an additional $300. For the contract year that runs from May 1, 2020, to April 30, 2021, the annual maximum will be $1,800. The change is automatic. Enrollees do not need to take any action for this to apply.

How are you doing? Things aren’t exactly rosy right now. It is hard to watch the news anymore.

There is tension now in the Philippians. The United States, and the Philippine armies are training together. This does not make China happy. Apparently the Chinese have been trying to frighten the Philippians by having hundreds of war ships pass by their country. We will see what happens there.

Many of the Generals seem to fighting back against President Trump and his wishes to use the regular Army to clean up the rioting areas. I can see both sides here.

What really has to happen is this:

If you notice that every place there is rioting, burning of businesses, and looting, is run by the democrats. Coincidences? I don’t think so. Those “leaders,” need to get tough and take charge. Clear out their own mess!!

We really do not need the National Guard. We need strong people who live there to step up.

How are you holding up during this storm we are going through? Is it getting overwhelming?

I know your pain. I have been struggling. The main thing I cling to is that no one can intimidate me. I will not back down. I will remain strong, and reach out to others who need help.

If it is getting a little dicey for you and your need help. Call the crises line below:

1-800-273-8255 Do not delay. It could be your life line.

You should never feel you are weak if you seek help. Do not let people think that since you are a veteran, you should tough it out. I needed help and I got it.

Face The Storms of your Life, and Survive

It has been an amazing ride for the month of June. I was excited to tell you on June 1st that we had just passed 8,000. It took over three years to do that. Then I stepped up my posting, and you all responded, Since June 1st, we have had 273 new subscribers. It took me months to get that many before. THANK YOU!!

I read that some knuckle heads have torn down the statue of George Washington in Portland, Oregon. I am ashamed to say that Portland is less than 50 miles from here. Too close to home. The rioters twisted minds claim that Washington was a racist and therefore he has to go.

There are statues being torn down all over our country. Nancy Pelosi has ordered all past speaker of the house politicians who she claims are racist to be taken down. She has become one of the rioters.

When I was in basic training I had a lot of growing up to do. I was a shy, quiet, kid from Oregon, who was lost when basic started. I wanted to hide in the barracks. Of course, the drill sergeant would not allow you to do that. Sgt McDonald was a tough guy on the outside. (I will explain what I mean by that shortly. )

He had me digging ditches and throwing a cigarette butt in and then cover it up. Then he would have me dig it up again. I quickly learned to be though and not let him shake me. He kept sending me in place of other recruits to KP, so they could get more training.

Then something happened. He told me he had nominated me for soldier of the month. I was very honored and went to meet all the brass at headquarters. He also named me to be on the honor guard that was marching in a up coming parade soon. I was again honored. I saw him walking alone one day and I stopped him to ask. “Why have you suddenly been so nice to me?” He bark back. “You have become a soldier!” You never questioned my commands and took orders quite well. To me that should be rewarded. “

I had become a man, and went on to be one of the top recruits at basic that year.

I am not telling you this to be bragging. I am telling you this to help you realize that you don’t have to be mad and upset when things do not go your way. Ride the waves, and learn.

President Trump is being attacked from all sides. The fake media, democrats, rioters, and many others. I have never seen anything like this. He is one of the strongest presidents of all time. No other president has had to go through all this crap. I admire him more each day as he faces the storms, and keeps on going.
