Report: U.S. Marines Returned Fire After Suicide Bombing, but No Enemies Were Shooting at Them

A declassified military report found that some U.S. Marines fired their weapons after the Aug. 26 bombing outside Hamid Karzai International Airport—but no enemy shooters were present. Investigators said the Marines were likely reacting to warning shots fired by the British military and other American units.

Army Gen. Army Richard Clarke is working from home this week with mild symptoms after testing positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. Clarke is fully vaccinated and has received a booster.

Really?

Has there been a time in the military that you weren’t proud of? I had an incident that still bothers me to this day. On one of my days off I was invited to ride with a courier to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone.)

I thought it would be very interesting, so I accepted the invite. The driver drove pretty fast in the open area. I was white knuckling it much of the way. We did slow down when we went through some villages. The people saw us and yelled at us because they didn’t want us there. This was hard to understand since we were saving them from the enemy. I was glad I couldn’t hear what they were saying.

We came to a farm area which had thousands of acres of rice paddies. In each field there was a deep hole with human waste in it. The people used their own human waste to fertilize the fields. We also saw the local farmers dipping the “honey buckets,” into the hole to get some of the waste out.

I saw an older farmer walking along the road with along pole across his shoulder that had a bucket on either side full of the waste. The driver dared me to spin the farmer with my hands. At that time of my life, I did stupid things to be accepted.

I reached out as far as I could as we passed the farmer. I caught one of the buckets, and this caused the farmer to completely spin around. I looked back and the farmer was screaming at us with human waste dripping from him.

The driver said, “Welcome to the club!” I guess there was a group of people that thought they were special being the one that knocked a defenseless old man down.

I immediately felt remorse for what I had done. I found out I was taken advantage by a guy, who hated the Korean people and did whatever he could to make their lives miserable. That made me even more remorseful.

I learned from this that you need to respect others and what they are doing to help their families. I realized in retrospect that if someone asks you to do something you know isn’t right for you to do it isn’t a group of people you want to be a part of.

We got to the DMZ. What a depressing place that was! It was a very small outpost with guards watching the North Korean soldiers on the other side of the DMZ.

They let me look through some powerful binoculars and I could see a North Korean soldier looking through his binoculars back at me. It was a very odd feeling. He was just another guy like me, but he would probably shoot me if he could.

Today, there is still strife between the two countries, and North Korea seems to be taking on the world on their own.  There is still the DMZ. There are still soldiers looking at each other through binoculars. Nothing much has changed except the lives of those who had to serve in Korea.

They had to come home to try to cope in the private sector. They had/have to adjust just to survive.

I can say that it is hard to block out some of the negative aspects of our military service. It is hard to change thoughts from the active duty mind-set to the different world of the private sector. It took me a while to clear my mind and concentrate on the future. I had to realize that I needed to move on and start a new adventure. I needed to think about the next day of my life and all the days after that instead of dwelling on days gone by.

I never regretted serving my country. I would do it again if I were able. I’ve learned that I just need to be thankful that I have another day on this earth and should seek what I can do to better my life and the lives of others.

We have all done some things we are not proud of. We need to correct any wrong doings we have done, by asking for forgiveness or making sure we show others the negative consequences of what we do to others.

Some soldiers, returning to the private sector, have issues that stay with them from their time in the service. I understand this. I have had to re-group myself. The key is to do something about it. Don’t hide your feelings. Get the right help to get you back on track in life. There are many resources in the back of this book to help you on your way down your new path.

A British paratrooper made himself at home in Atascadero, California on Wednesday when he crashed through the roof of a suburban kitchen during a training jump. The soldier hit the tile roof and fell right through, prompting a neighbor to call 9-1-1. Miraculously, the paratrooper suffered only minor injuries.

Army Gen. Austin ‘Scott’ Miller, the longest-serving U.S. commander in Afghanistan, has stepped down from his post.  Miller’s exit marks another symbolic milestone as the U.S. prepares to wrap up its part in the decades-long conflict.

The American Academy of Audiology estimates that more than one million U.S. military veterans receive disability compensation for service-connected hearing loss. In fact, hearing loss is the number one service-connected disability amongst veterans, with former military members experiencing 30% greater hearing loss than the general population.

There is Never a Time When You Don’t Have a choice

In the military you are faced with many orders. Go here, Do this. You expect that in the military and since you decided to enlist, you should live the life that has been given to you there.

However, out in civilian life it is a different story, People will also be barking at you to do this and that.

I have hear people say, “I had to do it because I didn’t have a choice.”

There is always a choice! We never have to accept our fate because we feel we have no choice.

We need to acknowledge that we have the same rights of others around us.

Have you had a boss threaten you if you didn’t do what he asked? It is OK to give out directions, but never OK to threaten. The people in the private sector need to realize that they are all working together just like a unit in the military. They need to respect each employee, and have their back when they need it.

When I first came out I was treated pretty badly by a boss who didn’t like any “youngsters,” trying to infiltrate his group of workers he loved to work with. He did whatever he could to make my day miserable.

When there was a job that was somewhat dangerous, he would make me do it. When it was time for a break, he wouldn’t let me sit with the rest of the men. I let it happen by my own choice, because I didn’t have any other way to find a job quick enough to provide for my family That was with me at the college I was going to.

So I fell for the trap, “I didn’t have a choice.”

Today, you have choices, You have your rights. You can respectfully disagree and not fear of losing your job.

The Pentagon is looking for a few good Nazi-hunters. Just kidding, they’re looking for just one senior executive to think up ways to prevent and respond to “supremacist, extremist, and criminal gang activity” in the U.S. military. The job opening comes amidst a recent surge of alarm bells over the rise of extremism within the ranks, including one neo-Nazi soldier who planned to attack his fellow troops.

Finding your tribe outside of the military
Erik Bartell left the military with no idea what he was going to do next. After serving for six years as an Army infantry officer, an injury forced him to make a decision. Erik had always wanted to lead, but with this injury, he would not be able to lead Soldiers directly in the field. He made the difficult decision to leave the Army and soon found inspiration from an unlikely source, fitness.

Healing the hidden wounds of war
Founded in New York City in 2012, The Headstrong Project was created to help military veterans and their families overcome PTSD and other military-related traumas. The founders of Headstrong saw a deep need for mental health services for post-9/11 veterans. They also saw a large gap between the care that was available and veterans’ access to it.

Airmen may soon be able to choose their own adventure when it comes to physical fitness tests, even if it involves walking. That’s what the Air Force announced on Monday. When Lt. Gen. Brian Kelly said the service would experiment with giving airmen options for how they want to perform their test. You other military branches may laugh, but some airmen say that walking for a fitness test is actually a lot harder than it sounds.

“Anything can happen in this sport,” says Spc. Alejandro Sancho, one of 12 Army athletes and three coaches going to the Olympics this summer. While Sancho will compete in Greco-Roman wrestling, other Army athletes will compete in boxing, shooting, swimming and more. The Olympics begin on July 23, so now’s the time to start getting hyped.

This last story reminds me of a very sad response from one of the Olympic performers. She decided to let people know she was anti American, by turning her back from the American flag and holding a women activist t-shirt up.

This caused lots of controversy of course, but the final straw of all this was that our own president says he is Ok with her doing that.

Biden admin ‘respects’ Olympic athlete’s ‘right’ to insult America

Those headlines didn’t go well with me. In my opinion and many others she should be dropped from the Olympic team since she hates America so much. The Olympics is all about patriotism towards your home country.
