Doug Bolton, the founder of the blog, Signs of Hope, which is at www.dailysignsofhope.com, has written a new book, “Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.” It reaches out the many military and veterans who may be battling anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, rejections, and the many other usual suspects. There are 22 military connected suicides every day. That is almost one every hour. Doug wants to help stop those statistics.

Time to buy the firecrackers, get the barbeque heated up, and have a great family gathering. It is the 4th of July!

But…is that all the 4th of July really means? Is it just and extended weekend?

Many years ago in 1776, our nation broke away from depending on other countries, and formed our own, by signing the Declaration of Independence.  We decided to walk the path of life alone.

Our great nation has grown through the years. We have prospered, and have a good lifestyle.

The U.S.A. has many freedoms. We have many choices. However, we sometimes use those freedoms, to cause turmoil. We may be the most satisfied nation, but we also may be the most empty.

We expect the luxuries. We expect to be able to choose our own paths. We have become a self centered nation that is having storms within its borders.

Let’s change our thinking now to the men and women who have fought for us to get those freedoms and luxuries. We may well have been taken over by the enemy in past wars if it weren’t for our veterans who put themselves in harm’s way to assure us of those freedoms.

That is what the 4th of July means to me. It is celebrating our freedoms and thank those who have gotten it for us.

We need to give back to these heroes to thank them for their service in the military. That is where Bike 22 comes in. There is a national event that started today. Steve Durgin, the CEO of Victory for Veterans of riding his bike across the great nation of ours to bring awareness of our veterans and the sacrifices they have made. He is heading up the West coast, and then zig zagging his way across this country to end up in Washington D. C.

Steve will be coming through over 80 cities. He will be greeted by thousands of people. Why don’t you join him on his quest to help those veterans who may be suffering from PTSD, TBI, depression, homelessness, war wounds, etc. Show him you care. Show him you want to help out by riding with him or being at one of the events to show support. You can even donate right now on this site to help out.

Here is the information you need to get started. Click on the link and just do it:

Today I am going off the beaten path a little to discuss how to pray. I had a short page or two about in the book, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World.” I have some books I have read for a resource that will guide you in this subject.

Where Do I Find Out How to Pray?

Prayer has to be the necessary foundation I talked about in the introduction for part one. With prayer you can talk to your heavenly Father, and He will guide you through your trials and daily routines.

It seems like prayer is the easiest thing to set aside. You often think you don’t have time for it. In reality, prayer is the one thing you need to make time for. All other things should be after prayer.

I have some books I have read that really have helped me understand prayer. They really taught me how to pray. Check these out and let me know if they have helped you. You can find my contact information in the appendix.

The following books are all written by Stormie Omartian. You can find any of them by going to Amazon.com and putting in her name. These books were published by Harvest House Publishers:

Just Enough Light for the Step I’m On: Trusting God in the Tough Times. (Her first book; good background information on the life she had to go through to start leaning on prayer.)

The Power of a Praying Husband

The Power of a Praying Wife

The Power of a Praying Kid

The Power of a Praying Woman

The Power of Praying Through the Bible

Praying God’s Will for Your Life: Student’s Edition

The Royal Wedding Opened my Eyes

I watched the Royal Wedding today, and I was amazed at the structure, and the ritual of the whole event.

Everything has it place and time. Even the Queen of England had her time she was to ride in her car to the wedding.

The clothes were for… well…. Kings and Queens. All the prominent women wore beautiful hats of all sizes. Some seemed to strain to see anything from under them.

As the guests started coming in you could see the King of Norway; the King of Tonga; the Queen of The Netherlands, and of course the Queen of England. All in their full royal gear, and walking down the aisle with many people bowing their heads as they walked by.

Much of the ceremony was very straight, and right out of the Bible.

One of the opening songs was, ” Oh Guide me thy Great Redeemer.”

A quote from one of the Priests: ” This marriage is ordained according to the will of God.”

Another Priest said, ” I declare to you before the terrible day of judgement to repeat after me, William will you take this….”

It was finalized with ” According to God’s law and in the name of the Ftaher, the Son, and the Holy Ghost,, I pronounce you man and wife.”

Then the brother of the bride read scripture for Roman 12:1-21. It talks about not conforming to this world. Love one another, etc.

Do you see the theme of all of this? The whole wedding was based from the Bible, even the songs, and the vows.

This reminds me of when the LORD comes again. Kings will bow down before Him and praise Him. They will honor Him, and call Him LORD.

Think on this:

  • We are not to conform to this world. This world seeks self- gratification, and power.
  • All will some day bow down before the LORD no matter what their rank or power may be.
  • We need to daily thank the LORD for His grace and love for us even though we may not deserve it.
  • The LORD gives us hope through His promises that He will return and bring us home.
