Doug Bolton, the founder of the blog, Signs of Hope, which is at www.dailysignsofhope.com, has written a new book, “Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.” It reaches out the many military and veterans who may be battling anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, rejections, and the many other usual suspects. There are 22 military connected suicides every day. That is almost one every hour. Doug wants to help stop those statistics.

Military articles to read that make you feel good:

1. Chaplain Saves Stranger’s Life

CH.(CAPT.) Michael Harari went the extra mile help save a stranger’s life.

Harari was driving with another man when they spotted a man near a guard rail and close to an overpass. He told his friend to call 911, and Harari took the next exit and back tracked until he found the man.

Harari started talking to the man. The man shared he was a veteran. The man talked about his service, but he was hard to understand. Harai was certainly able to save this man’s life through talking to him.

Lt Col John B. Davis said, “His small amount of compassion saved that man’s life. ”

Harari will not receive a Medal of Honor, but his unselfish act to save another man is just as heroic.

This is a Monday. A day that many dread. It is back to work for another week, and people are already wishing it was Friday. Do you feel that way? Do the days stretch out into what seems like 10 hours instead of a normal working day of 8 hours?

The point is that you have a job! Veterans who are struggling and are homeless, do not have much hope left. They sit in the parks and sleep under bridges.

The man in the first story was about to take his own life because he felt lost and alone. The women in the second story have found help, and maybe, just maybe they will be able to get back into society, and lead a normal life.

If you are a veteran, and feel alone and lost, and you are even on the edge of homelessness, get help. There are many nonprofits in your area who will reach out to help.

If you are struggling with PTSD, TBI, anxiety, depression, get help and do it now. There is a 24/7 connection for you to call at:

I have been working very hard on my new book, “Signs of Hope: For the Military. I feel that it will help many soldiers and their families. The appendix for this book will have one of the most complete lists available for finding help in any area a person may be searching for pertaining to the military.

As of 2-4-15 I have connected with a military expert from Alabama. His name is Leroy Hurt. He is a West Point Graduate, and will be advising me through-out the process of writing the book.

Be looking for updates on the book and other news at this site, or at http://www.dailysignsofhope.com.

There has been so many tragic events going on in our world lately. Isis and their murdering of innocent people. Flooding in many places, domestic violence in sports, and even murder.

I could go on and name many more horrific things that are going on, but we need to concentrate on the positive side of life instead of the dark side. There are too many trials, and storms in many people’s lives.

Are you faced with dark and dreary days? Do you seem to be taking one step forward, and two steps back? You certainly are not alone.

Depression is one of the fastest growing ailments in the world. Depression, has no age barrier. It can attack the elderly, way down to little children. It is another form of identity thief in my opinion. It robs the person of showing love, and compassion to others around them. This is sad in that it is they that needs the compassion and love, and through their depression, people tend to ignore them because they don’t want to deal with it.

People don’t like being invited to pity parties. I know, because I was one of the most depressed people on the planet at one time. I was even sitting in my Ford Explorer ready to check out of this hotel called earth. I tried to put on a good face, and smile, but on the inside I was dying.

Have you been there? Do you have very dark days with no light at the end of the tunnel?

Turn all your pain, and frustrations over to God. Let Hm carry the Load. That is what I did when I sat in my Ford Explorer. I finally shouted out to God. “I can’t Take this anymore!” At that moment I felt a wonderful peace. It was as if God was saying, “It is about time you came back to me. Now let me carry you the rest of the way.”

God cares! He loves you like His own child. He wants you to depend on Him to see you through the storms and trials of life. It is too much of a burden for most of us. If we try to face the world alone, the outcome may not be too pretty.

Stay Strong and let God show you the peace and compassion you deserve.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

We recently opened a new bookstore. We only have one book in it so far, but plan to add others as we publish more books, and have some outstanding books from friends we would like to have here.

The one book we have is called, “Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World.” Many of the posts at my blog: www.dailysignsofhope.com, have posts from this book. This book reaches out to those who may be suffering from anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, self-doubt, hopelessness, and the many other usual suspects.

Chapter 64

Compassion Is Difficult to Give Away Because It Keeps Coming Back

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Matthew 5:5

I was warming up one day before playing a round of golf. I had been looking forward to a relaxing day, a chance to get away from it all, and was hitting a few balls at the driving range. I was hitting the ball well when a young man in his 20s to my right also started hitting balls. He was hitting the balls very far, which was distracting to me. I felt intimidated by his skills.

I continued to hit, but my shots started going in all directions. I was so distracted by this young man’s abilities that I couldn’t concentrate! I tried to regroup, and stepped up to the tee, saying to myself: I have to ignore the person to my right and hit the ball straight. I took a big swing, and the ball went directly right, hitting the young man on the outside of his left knee. He went down to the ground, grabbing his knee in pain. I was horrified!

I ran over to him, repeating how sorry I was, to ask if he was all right. He looked up at me.

“I’ll be OK,” he said. “And don’t feel bad—you weren’t trying to hit me.”

I could see he was in a great deal of pain, but his first action was to try to calm me down. Here was young a man who had every right to be really mad. God had given this young man the right things to say. That was another of my close encounters with God!

I couldn’t believe how calming his answer was. I was very upset, and I bet it showed! He, the injured party, calmed me by his loving spirit! He could have cursed at me, but he used the moment to show his Christian attitude toward another person.

How do you know he was a Christian? you wonder. Well, I really don’t know because our conversation never went to that subject, but if I were a betting man (and I’m not!), I’d say he was a believer because he never hesitated to show compassion for someone in spite of his own discomfort.

Can people look at you and tell you are a Christian by your actions?

I’ve always felt that you don’t have to grab a Bible and “preach” to a person to have a large effect on them. This young man had a tremendous effect on me, and he didn’t do much. He just forgave me, and let it go at that!

Have you had the opportunity to be a witness to someone by your actions, and let it pass you by?

We can be a witness to someone without trying to impress them with what we know about the Bible. It’s wonderful if you have that knowledge, but most people don’t care how much you know; they want to know how much you care. Many times a people will say, “I want to be like that person,” just by what they see us do. A calming spirit will win more people over than an angry, hateful spirit.

Aim straight for the heart with your love, and the feeling will become a part of those around you.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,

but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Philippians 2:3

Further Adventures

The next time someone is angry, try the gentle approach. You may be very surprised to see that it will calm them down much faster than yelling back at them. Your friends or family will really look up to you if you are consistent in your approach to stress and pressure. Your example may help them to also be meek and therefore be an example for the next person.

Something to Ponder

Isn’t it funny that the more we show kindness to someone, the more we get back in return?
